To get the impression of a reflection you need contrast. Create a mask that corresponds to the lines that outline the tiles- use that to keep the space in between tiles flat (no gloss). Reverse that mask to get a mask for the tiles- use that combined with an animated gradient ( hot core, short fades on sides). Play with color in the gradient, use dark indigo to a lighter tone. To add more interesting highlights comp the layer on top of all the others using an animated tile mask ( use the initial tile mask – render it out- you will get white tiles with black “grout”; comp that over black and animate a mask that cuts the white tile shapes in the same way the light sweeps = an animated mask of the tiles that are highlighted) Apply a bevel alpha filter and play with comp modes. Hope you can understand what I am thinking- it wasn’t easy writing it down, although it seemed pretty clear in my mind…

it is best to render uncompressed formats straight out of AE. For a delivery format (compressed) render out of Adobe Media Encoder.

Unless you have CS5, AE runs better without Open GL turned on – lots on this subject on the Adobe website.

My guess is that it can be done with displacement maps or camera projections.

The Paramount stars are 3d objects. If you just want some stars (2d) to imitate the motion then do what Dave suggested. If you want to get the exact same look you will have to use a plugin like Zaxwerks or a 3d package.

You may want to do some tests as far as the adjustment of brightness and chroma, and play back on a few different tvs to figure out which one is the best.

You can also try the Remove Grain filter that comes with AE- sometimes that will do the trick.

CS5 has Free Form included- you could use that to distort your shapes in 3D space, but I’m afraid that you will have to do this to each shape individually.
