January 14, 2016 at 2:31 pm in reply to: Desaturating VFX graphics/PS layers for color correction/grading on Davinci ResolveIn my experience I have found out that adding any graphics and effects before anything is done to the footage, and matching them to the initial unaltered look, worked best. Work in the same color space and color depth that your RAW footage has, composite the graphics and then have the final grading done.

Depending on the complexity of your shot you can try to create depth mattes for the objects and the use FreeForm Pro to displace running matrix codes in 3d space.

Dave may not have understood your question- I think you were referring to adding moire to the monitors in your CG shots.
Monitors have a certain number of pixels and the moire is generated when the lines or details are smaller than the pixel in size. I would create a “pixel matte” (you can use CC Ball action on a solid to create a b&w image that can be use as a matte) to comp the images in the monitors – the trick is to have a large number of pixels. Add a slight glow and animate that to simulate flicker.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Add some reflective properties to the gear – using a animated environment to give moving reflections to the gear may help. I would use some beveling on the edges of the gear as well. A simple thing to try is to add a rotating Light Sweep. Animating the lights and choosing a more dramatic light setup in E3D may also help.
These are a few ideas, but as Dave said, you have to figure out what you’re after. Find some examples of “looks”that you like, decide on one and post it here and then we can be more specific in how to achieve that look.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

There are several layers of animated 3d elements that could be created with Plexus or a 3d app and then composited on top of the video over the singer/dancers/disco ball using low opacity and maybe different transfer modes (overlay, screen…).
Video glitch – a good tutorial:

This following tutorial can be used to create the broken glass reflection look

There are several others used, Echo Effect to create the video feedback look, a Kaleidoscope filter (or made using something like in this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cepdGO3l-eY )
Trapcode Mir may have been used as well.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Use the alpha of the initial particles as a track matte for a layer of solid color to eliminate reflections and shadows.

I switched over to exclusive use of laptops several years ago. I went through a few machines, granted at a higher cost. Alienware, Origin PC, MSI and 3XS, all custom build, with top nVidia cards and the best i7 on the market at the time. The best deal for the money based on how the machine works in field conditions under tight deadlines I found to be the cheapest of them all- the MSI. At 2500 USD, with 970M, i7, 32 GB RAM and 3 SSD’s in SUPER RAID 2 it’s similar in performance with the most expensive of the lot (6000 USD for the Origin). Take a look at xoticpc.com for more ideas. My suggestion is to balance out the specs for a good price. More RAM and fast SSD drives over the top processor (go with the second best – the difference in price vs performance makes it the smart choice) that would be my suggestion.
