Play with the Visibility of the particles- adjust hoe far away they should vanish and how long the fade should be ( in your case the numbers should be the same).

If you have CS5, you can animate at will in AE and then just export the project as a Flash project. All unsupported effects in Flash will be rasterized though. Once that is done you can open the project in Flash and export from there.
Or you can take Cory’s suggestion and export a flash movie (f4v). Don’t use AE though to export- open the AE project in Adobe Media Encoder and render from there- much better compression.

Try this on a small scale model- simple boxes like in one of the clips from your link (make sure you have a perfectly square box in front, even if you’re not going to use it at the end in your live setup):
Hook up a projector to your computer. Make sure that it displays only the comp window from AE (if you have a 1920×1200 desktop, and a projector that displays SD, set your comp to SD and work at full res. Position your comp window in such a way that it fits the Projectors window (most projectors have a setting where you can display 1:1 what’s on your screen, so you actually see only part of your desktop if you have a bigger display). The projector should be in the position you will use at the end- don’t move it after you set up. Use 3d solid layers in AE to build one square box. move camera in AE to match perspective in the projection with the real square box. Once you do that lock the camera in AE. That’s your initial setup. Build the rest of the boxes from there to match the actual setup. Once you are done building the set you can start experimenting by building animations on each plane. Precomp the planes and open up the precomps to animate in. That’s the basic AE setup. Of course you can get fancy and worki with a 3d app. Build a model to scale, set your camera angle and match it with the projection and then animate at will. This will of course give you more options, but I think the AE setup can do the job pretty well.

Mocha is great for roto work that involves tracking too.
CS5 has RotoBrush – a great solution for quick masking, and that may be all you need. Do some reading and watch some tutorials first- it’s a great tool but not very intuitive, so you need to know how it works before you start, otherwise you could get discouraged pretty quick and drop it before it reveals it’s power.

  • However, AE does quite a few things that Flash can not do when it comes to animation and vfx. With CS5 you can animate in AE and then export to Flash. You will need to do quite a bit of reading though. As far as the interactivity goes, Joey is right, Flash will provide the tools for that.

Rotoscoping should do the trick for you. Here’s another link.

To add to the advice you’ve been given, I would say that if you have access to Boujou then you have a tool that will do the job really well. I have used that quite extensively and I’m really happy with it. If you want the text to be 3d you can use Invigorator Pro. In the latest version you can assign 3d objects/text to track 3d layers in AE- so you can set up layers in 3d space and then just assign 3d text in Invigorator to those layers.

    Position Subframe 10x Smooth

Velocity (all values, random, distribution, from motion) 0.0

    Size of emitter 0.

    This should solve your issues.

  • One thing that can generate that kind of difference is the codec you use to render. What color depth are you working on 8, 16 or 32 bit? What codec do you use? If you render with an uncompressed codec, is the difference still there?
