In this case, AE can do 2 of those things. The audio will be a pain, but doable. Still, maybe Premiere CS4 should still be considered as an option if you can’t upgrade your machine.
Just like Dave, out of curiosity, does your machine support only a 32bit operating system or the os you have is 32bit but your machine can take a 64 bit os? If it’s the latter, I would highly recommend upgrading to a 64 bit OS so that you can take advantage of CS5 and 64 bit processing.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

Yep, Dave’s right, you’ll have to setup a second project… or maybe it will work if you setup projects with proxies and then choose to “import and replace” the file sequence. They should be after all the initial comps in the render queue and have the exact name as the proxy. This may work, never tested it though.

You are probably referring to 21st Century Fox and not MGM (that’s the one with the lion). The animation was done most likely in a 3d app. However, you can do that in AE using Zaxwerks Invigorator Pro for the 3d letters/logo. You can even create simple projectors for the lights. To achieve the visible beam effect you need AE lights set in the same place where the projectors are (in 3d) and a Trapcode Lux filter applied on an adjustment layer on top.

Bring all the projects you need to render in a master project.
Duplicate the original comp you need rendered as still sequence and add the 2 layers you need for the flv. Name the comps accordingly.
Open the AE project in Adobe Media Encoder, import all comps, set each to desired output ( sequence of stills and flv ) and hit start queue.
Go have coffee, lunch, dinner or a short vacation, depending on how many projects you need rendered and how fast your machine is.

Like all the others, I would NOT use AE as an editing tool – it will frustrate you!
Like Dave I agree that it is too bad you do not like Premiere Pro. If you will invest in a editing app, why not go with it? It’s perfectly integrated with AE, it can easily handle all types of footage- from RED to DSLR to any kind of HD/DV- it’s robust, fast and it can do all the things you want an editing app to do.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

I second Dave’s comment, although I do not want you to lower your expectations of what you want to achieve. Truth is it takes a lot of hours of practice and learning, and there are no quick ways of achieving some of the things you see and want to replicate.
That being said, shooting the actors on green screen is not a bad idea. You can do that and then use several combinations of plugins to achieve the look in the video. Find edges inverted with Levels used to crunch the luma values before that may get you close. Also, if you have access to Toonit you may find a preset that gives you that look.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu

April 15, 2011 at 11:20 am in reply to: Generating ~1000 circles of varying sizes…without overlappingEchospace works in 3D space, so if you only need X, Y and Size as variables it can obviously do that. The technique in Eran Stern’s tutorial may be best for you though. You end up with one layer and a lot of shapes instead of many layers.

The example you posted was most likely done by using a bunch of stills, various frames numbers for each still, much like in this production:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIDtgw-jYOQYou could go through your footage, export still frames from the shots you need, bring them in AE and exetnd each still for a number of frames to get the desired effect. In the example above I shortened the number of frames for the stills as the timeline progressed.

Also, in this tutorial Eran Stern uses a technique for his discs tunnel that may help you for your discs background.Tudor “Ted” Jelescu
