a quick question in case you are any other members have a comment:

are the 3 dvcam decks likely to be recording at 29.97 fps, while the tc generator is giving it 30 fps and this is what ultimately leads to the drift from atomic time?

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Perhaps you can tell me if I am even in the right zip code with what I need to do, these terms and functions are really new with me.

My situation was as follows:

I was printing to video and something glitched resulting in loss of picture and audio to deck.
I was 52 of 60 minutes into the tape, 52mins, 12 seconds and 4 frames to be exact.

I have since remastered the entire tape, but am hoping in the future to be able to pick up where I left off right down to the frame.

Any clarity as to what the proper terminology is for what I am trying to do and perhaps some basics surrounding the issue would be greatly appreciated.

In my specific situation, there is no audio, so no sync issues and there is no timecode on the footage, so no in and out points

setting to “non controllable device” removes the timecode coming off the deck – this is the problem i am trying to remedy – i want to set as “non controllable device” AND maintain timecode, as i am able to in premiere

as a controllable device, capture now basically “hits stop on the deck” and fcp gives you an error message. as a non controllable device, the location where the decks timecode should be has disappeared and when you hit “capture now” you get footage that does not contain the deck’s timecode.

very unusual problem for me to not have a function in fcp that is a function available in premiere

would another option be to play it to a device such as a ki pro from aja?

we connect through firewire 6pin to 6pin. side note, premiere was able to connect as a noncontrollable and maintain timecode

Someone in our crew came up with the option to replace a windows laptop with Premiere about an hour ago and we are scrambling to see if we can make a MBP with FCP usable as it would save us a few hours in our preparation time for post.

I guess we will have to keep on researching and try again if an option becomes available.
