10.0.3 does seem much peppier. Many of the spinning beach ball delays are gone. For example I used to get a long pause after choose media export and selecting a location. No longer. My edit session yesterday was incredibly productive and fast. I never had to wait for FCP X. Working was a joy.

Unfortunately in my tests the bloat bug us still present. I quickly created a 150MB project file (compounded upon compounded clips) and editing slowed to a crawl with beach balls.

Although Apple must address this issue, I have a feeling it is a tough nut to crack. They really need to know what a huge issue this is for us. I would shoot them feedback or better yet call them regarding it if you are able to reproduce the problem.

Hold the phone. I found the solution. Its an app called XfcpX that will properly rewrap and combine the files needed. It’s free and you can read about it here:

Make sure you read the instructions, as it requires that you use the Canon XF Utility.

Actually I found some MXF footage. Looks like the audio is captured separately. Interesting. So it is apparently something with the conversion software.

    Sorry I couldn’t help further.

Can you post a very short clip of the original footage before you converted it. When you reply you will see a small floppy disk icon and you can use that to upload a file, and then you will be provided a link.

I’ll bet we can get it figured out.

    Robert –

Actually it is not a bug, it is the way the transition was created. It does the little water effect on the outgoing clip and the incoming clip. You can choose to “open in motion” and then just turn off the incoming clip. Of course if you wanted to, you could make a rig and add some options to it.

I did a quick version of the effect for the incoming clip only. Enjoy!

Something is hosed on your system. Sounds like a driver in your video card, bad system install, corrupted drive. I would give Apple a call regarding it. 1-800-MY-APPLE

January 27, 2012 at 7:42 pm in reply to: Rendering Clips

Perhaps there is some terminology that is different.

    – “Rendering” in Final Cut is the process of processing the effects, etc on a clip in a timeline so that it plays back smoothly.
    – “Exporting” is getting a QuickTime file out of FCP X for use elsewhere. Currently in FCP X, exports are for an entire timeline.

Therefore if you need to Render a portion of your timeline, just choose “Modify > Render Selection”. But if you need to export a portion of your timeline, copy and paste it to a new Project timeline, or Compound Clip in your event.

Got back to my office and I can confirm that audio doesn’t play through the Mac in the Create Archive process.

January 26, 2012 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Audio falls out of sync in Final Cut Pro X

I apologize when I read you original post I didn’t noticed that it was the export that was the problem, plus you tried proxy. I should remember not to try to answer questions when I am home sick in bed (as I am now.)

This sounds very odd, I use those .caf audio files all the time from the Soundtrack Library. I would try a few things.

1 -make a new event and project, reimport your clips and see if you can recreate the problem.
2- convert the CAFs to AIFFs see if you can reproduce the issue there.
3- trash FCP X prefs, repair permissions on your startup drive (in Disk Utility)
3- if the above doesn’t work, give Apple a call.

Again I apologize for my previous responses.
