Thanks for the quick reply, Terrence. I followed your instructions exactly and yes, the footage appears in a bin and you can edit with it. But the footage in that bin is not on one of the computer’s hard drives. How does AMA move the footage off the SXS card and onto the hard drive?

Hi Terrence. Long time, no talk!

Well, it’s too late for the dongle advice. I’m now dongle free, so c’est la vie!

But I do have another question regarding the new version’s support of the PMW-EX1 SxS card format. I’ve scoured the Avid web site, but I’ll be damned if I can find anything that explains how to import footage from an SxS card, other than the tried and true method of using Sony’s Clip Browser software.

I have found mention of AMA, but no where is there an explanation of how to use this to import the footage from an SxS card. By any chance do you either know how to do this, or do you know the Avid link that hopefully gives a logical and concise explanation (Mac related of course!).

    Thanks.

I hadn’t gotten that far. Being the anal retentive type, I was following Avid’s instructions to the letter regarding that you were to update the dongle first before anything. I go stymied at that point. But what about having some guy in Romania handling tech support. Is this part of Avid’s “new thinking”?

  • Yeah, it’s a very misleading picture. I actually ordered one of the Sony WA adapters because like you, I saw that the sunshade was a separate piece in the photograph (by the way, that is the “official” photo on the Sony web site as well). When I received the unit the sunshade was definitely not removable and entirely fixed. I returned it forthwith!

Actually, a lens. No kidding. They ship it without a lens. How do I know, I called one of these low ballers and asked!

Well that completely blows!!! That’s like my favorite event and I even booked an earlier flight to get there on time. What gives, Apple?

Yeah, I know about the Bella. I’ve got a Shuttle Pro however which works well. I was hoping to kill two birds with one stone though…

    Hi Bob —

I bought one and hooked it up just last week. I’m using the MOTU Micro Lite midi interface between the Mackie and the computer. It talks to Soundtrack Pro and Logic flawlessly and I’m still working out which buttons on the MCU do what to the various pieces of software. It talks to FCP as well, but I’m a little disappointed in that implementation because I just assumed that the jog wheel/play/stop/reverse buttons would also work to essentially control the sequence, but alas it doesn’t. The Mackie simply controls the levels within the audio mix tool and that’s it. Hopefully, Mackie/Apple will come out with a more advanced driver for FCP with maybe even a special Lexan template to control/assign various parameters to FCP.

    Cheers.

I had the same issue of no video to the NTSC monitor, plus the additional problem of synch being shot to hell. In my case, I have the AJA I/O box. A call to AJA tech support told me to uninstall everything FCP and reinstall which indeed solved the problem, that is until I also repopulated my plugin folder with my collection of plugins. Same exact issue reared it’s head again. Figuring that the plugins were the suspect I uninstalled and reinstalled yet again and one by one inserted my plugins into the plugins folder. All of them worked fine until I inserted the Automatic Duck plugins at which time the synch and external video issues came back. Removing the Duck plugins solved the problem.

  • I would advise against the Clean Install. I did just that and it disabled Motion and DVDSP. The reason is that there are essential components installed in various folders within the system. A clean install eliminates those components causing Motion and DVDSP to not launch. The solution is an absurdly complicated procedure of uninstalling over 50 files related to Motion, reinstalling Motion, reinstalling DVDSP and reinstalling Tiger. It’s a complete pain in the ass! I would suggest that you do a simple upgrade of Panther to Tiger and install Final Cut Studio in a normal manner. Naturally, it is prudent to back up various project files.
