I talked about Playoff Baseball last season on here Craig at the time when we used it.

I talked about how many people watch Major league post season sports.

It’s not really gonna matter to some folks.

I don’t really care either. When I’m on the job I’m not even thinking about what somebody I don’t know likes or doesn’t like. I’m just doing MY job.

Our people in St. Louis dominate major sports as a percentage like no other city. You can’t look at the Super Bowl, World Series Final Four or any other major sporting event without seeing the work of some of our people.

Our director directs the Stanley Cup

X is moving into sports because it works well there.

On another subject, these companies that make third party programs are making them for X, Avid and PPr

They would be stupid to leave out X because of the sheer volume of people using the product.

To me it’s simple business 101

Companies are going to make plug-ins for X and design programs for it because there is a lot of money to be made in doing so.

Even if Apple stood still (which they won’t) other people are making the product better every month because they make money by doing that.

There are things that X can do and can’t do.

The what it can do out ways the what it can’t do for me.

[Renato Sanjuán] “Not the sexiest GUI on the planet”

You can say that again. That’s the first thing I noticed about the new one.

It’s got some cool 3D features though.

In jumping around checking out the different NLE’s, they all have some features I like and some I don’t like.

I’m glad lightworks is out there also.

With all these choices seems most editors will find the one that’s right for their own specific needs.

I went on Youtube and looked at some Lightworks demos.

Man, talk about a learning curve.

It didn’t look like anything I have worked with before.

I looked at how it did titles…………..hummmmmm

I don’t see the benefit, unless you don’t want to jog around the track and you want to get your workout this way : )

It takes the skimmer out of the mix so that’s a deal breaker for me right off.

    Touch screens have their place.

I was in a hotel lobby the other day and they had a huge one on the wall and you could find pizza around the corner or weather. Very cool, but you only use it for a couple of minutes.

You would see editors falling over from heart attacks. The edit session is too long for all that.

I can see tagging footage on an airplane with an ipad but transferring to my computer when I wanted to work.

I think part of the reason X is slimmed downed in that timeline is to make it touch screen ready.

[Neil Patience] “We cut features and highlights that support a studio show that is on air for 8 hours a day 7 days a week and additionally around 20 inserts for each of 3 live news items.
So I have a pretty good idea what it takes to create content under pressure of time and TX deadline.
This is totally done on Avid “

We have Avid at our FOX stations also (but not in the trucks) and we have great people who can cut the heck out of sports on Avid.

It’s just not for me. For me I can cut faster on X

THEY can cut just fine on Avid. It’s a matter of TASTE at that point. I don’t like bins, I like my skimmer and
I don’t like Avid’s title tool over X’s titles. I don’t like tracks. But THEY do.

    Both tools can work.

They know their Avid and have used it for years and I’m sure they don’t see why they should start all over with this.

I don’t want them to if they don’t want to.

Some people are fine looking at that render bar in 7. Unacceptable for me at this point. Everyone has their thing.

I will say that two of our Avid folks are looking at X and liking it.

    They won’t be the last.

I guess this is just a matter of style because when I cut sports that’s all there is, is action.

We have to match a play from different angles all the time and I don’t have a problem doing it with X

You have a player diving for a ball from mid-first camera then you cut x-mo on the same play.

That’s most of what we do.

You don’t want to see just one angle when you have all those cameras out there a game.

I think the main mistake they made was putting some of the new cool tools (like the precession tool) in Imovie first.

They rebuilt imovie and made it stronger before they rebuilt fcp.

Then when people saw X after Imovie they just said imovie pro.

    Apple had the order wrong.

It had no effect on me, because I hadn’t seen imovie for years, I just saw a faster 64 bit program with cool new tools.
