Free FCPX Effect – TKY Over Exposure Rescue 1.0
It sometimes happens that you have a shot that is over-exposed and you want to try and restore some of the missing information in the blown-out areas. TKY Over Exposure Rescue (gotta think up a catchier name!) is designed to help you with with that recovery process.

If you solo the different RGB channel in your source image, you will notice that one or other of the channels seems to have more information than the others. Typically in the most common case of a burnt-out sky, the blue channel with have no information but there will still be some detail in the Red or Green channels.
The purpose of this effect is to harness that hidden information and allow you to add it back.
Note that this effect uses the new Motion Template Tool installer form Andreas Kiel (Spherico). Please do make the effort to download this installer and use it – and maybe buy Andreas a beer while you’re at it! Tnanks.

So if you could actually USE FCPX in your workflow, would we get less of these cool effects?
If so I hope they never add OMF export and the other things you need 🙂

For anybody thinking of using this effect, please note there is now a new version (V1.1) with improved functionality (see enclosed manual for details) and a “bug fix”.

In V1.0 the Increase.Detail slider seems to have got corrupted for reasons best know to Motion 5.
I mention this because I am becoming increasingly aware that with more complex forms of rigging and linking, you may find that over the course of building an effect, or even thereafter, some of the rigging and linking may well either become unlinked or stop working or become “buggy” as in this case.
Initially I put this down to operator error on my part but it’s starting to become clear that building very elaborate Motion 5 templates can sometimes lead to problems of this nature. Fine if you’re just publishing a built-in parameter or two, less good if there’s lots going on “under the hood”.
