Most likely its a problem with your RAID, or a codec/driver conflict. Remove all codec’s and drivers except the ones that are installed by OS X and by AJA for your card. Make sure your RAID is not full and is fast enough for what you are doing. You also should do a search for similar problems on the Final Cut Pro forum and the AJA Kona forums as you might find something usefull to help narrow down the issue. Finally, AJA has a pretty good FAQ on their website that can be very helpful as well. Make sure you system meets their requirements (see the compatiblity pdf on their site).

Oh, one final thought. Make sure your card’s firmware and the drivers are the latest versions.

The older ones are ADC and the newer (metal framed) ones are DVI. Your Mac may have either ADC or DVI connectors (or both) depending on its age and what graphics card you have in it. There are known issues with every version/model of Cinema Display, but if you get a good one, they all look great.

Did you use a PAL preset or sequence setting in FCP when you created your project? If not, I’d just send master the tape NTSC (7.5) and send it out to have dubbed to PAL. It’s quick, inexpensive, and easy. I don’t work with PAL often, so if someone has a better solution, please speak up.

This is likely and basically what I saying in my post above. The other reason for delaying the PowerMac Towers is that pro users won’t buy them right now, because most of the software we need, won’t run on Intel Mac’s yet. Apple needs to stall until Adobe, Microsoft and others are at least closer to releasing “Universal” versions of their apps (don’t forget all the plugins too). At least we’ll have Apple’s pro applications at the end of March for the MacBooks (hate that name), iMac’s and whatever else Apple releases by then.

Yes, I believe it should work fine. Keep in mind, there’s always a possibility of driver/codec conflicts in the future with that setup, which will never be the case with a Kona HD cards and the Io. Tech-support, in the case of a problem between the Decklink and Io, would be difficult as well because you’re dealing with two company’s (3 if you count Apple). None the less, enjoy your new HD card and your bullet-proof AJA Io. It sounds like a nice combo.

What kind of projects (Final Cut, After Effects, DVDSP, etc)? What exactly is the problem you are having? Do you get an error message – if so, what? What happens exactly?

A lot more details would really help us guess/diagnose the problem:
How are you moving them off (Retrospect, Carbon Copy, Finder drag and drop, etc)?
What OS are you using (be specific – 10.4.4, etc)?
What kind of Mac do you have (exact model please)?
What Firewire drive are you using (brand, model, age, size)?
Is the drive plugged into your Mac directly or are you using a Firewire card?
What have you done so far to try and troubleshoot the issue (for example: repaired the permissions and drive using Disk Utility or Disk Warrior, updated the firmware on your Firewire drive, removed any other devices plugged into your Mac that could be interfering – especially other Firewire devices, updated your OS, etc)?
I’m sorry to ask so many questions, but we can’t see your setup and can only rely on your words to describe the issue. The devil is usually in the details and is not a generic problem across all Mac’s and OS versions. Most likely, I’m guessing its a problem with your Firewire drive, but that’s just a guess based on almost zero info as I don’t even know what the problem is exactly (check with the drive manufacturer for updates – see their website).

Yes and no. OS X uses permissions on every file and folder (Unix). Those permissions are related to users. Every user of that Mac should have their own user name and password. If you put anything into your user folder, then no other user should be able to access or see what’s in it (except a couple of sharable folders inside). If you change the permissions on the files and folders on your Mac, you can prevent or allow any other user from reading & writing to them (need to be Admin level user or above, depending on the files). Get info on a file or folder to change its permissions.
If you don’t want someone looking at your Mac while you’re logged in, but maybe stepped away for a few minutes, then you have a few options. If you go to your Security preferences. You can require a password to wake the computer from sleeping or screen savor. Simply put your Mac to sleep before you walk away. You can also have your user account automatically log out after a few minutes of inactivity. Disable auto login as well, if you don’t want someone else starting from your account.
Instead of typing a whole novel on the subject I found a couple of links that should help you. They will tell you how to make files/folders invisible like you originally requested. OS X has a lot of invisible files on it that are very important. Please don’t delete any unless you really know what you are doing:

I think I just answered this a couple posts below. Officially, right now, Apple is not preventing anyone from running Window’s on the new Mac’s. However, Apple and Intel are using newer technology (EFI) that the current Window’s versions do not support. So, unless you want to wait for an emulator like Virtual PC to be updated, I doubt you’ll be running XP on these new Intel Mac’s.
At the end of this year (or whenever Microsoft finally releases it) the new Window’s OS called Vista (longhorn) will support the newer technologies and “might” run on the Intel Mac’s. How well it’ll run is a big question mark (if it runs at all), but Apple says the won’t prevent it (nor help it). On the flip side, don’t expect to see OS X on anything but Apple machines anytime soon (unless you’ve got a skilled hacker friend and taking chances with your data).
