Yea…you can do that. Compressor will do the best job of it. iPhone 4 shoots 720p so it’s progressive. When you bring it into your timeline, after your conversion, tell FCP to set the timeline to the settings of the first clip. You’ll still have to render effects and some transitions depending on your computers specs and all that stuff but it’s the best you’ll get.
Just for fun, check out the editing and effects apps I pointed out earlier. You’d be surprised what you can get done ON the phone!

Take your iPhone footage into MPEG Streamclip or Compressor first and convert it to an editable format first. I would use Apple Proress 422 (not HQ), or DVCPRO HD. And DVCPRO HD is probably closest to what iPhones are putting out.
I’ve been having quite a bit of fun using it and editing right on the phone. Between the 3 editors I have (iMovie, ReelDirector, and Splice, you can do A LOT with them and the quality is awesome…for a phone. I had to start a new YouTube channel just for them because I don’t want people confusing that stuff with my pro work.

You might try saving those files as .png with transparency instead of what you’ve got now. Might help.

Magic Bullet Looks is awesome. Take a preset and tweak infinitely to your liking or creat your own look using tons of tools. It also comes with Misfire. You can also try Digieffects aged film plug.
