Looks like you’re in the Beta program for Sapphire Edge. I see a bunch of their plug-ins in there 😉

Keep in mind that smoothcam, while doing a pretty darn good job most of the time, can make your footage look like it’s “blurry/wobbly” sometimes. Especially if the original clips had a lot of movement in them. The blur comes from blowing the frame as it zooms in to fill the frame after it fixes things and the warble comes from the optical flow stabilization. As was said, if your using FCP6, you should keep a “workspace” timeline open and create new clips (with extra space for handles) that are the length you’ll need so that you can export and bring em back in BEFORE you apply smoothcam so that it’s only analyzing exactly tahat media.

Not in front of my computer right now but in the project settings there’s a check box for something like “include background in render” or something. Uncheck it. I think if it’s checked it’ll make a default black background.

Couldn’t you buy FCS 3 upgrade on eBay and use the serial to upgrade from 2 to 7?

FCP 6.0.1? Try running your updates and get it up to 6.0.6 and see if that helps. 6.0.1 was very buggy.

OP is a student so that shouldn’t be a problem. Besides the software is EOL’d so we haven’t been left with many options. Well, you could spend up to 2k for it.

By the way, if using FCP 6, you should be at version 6.0.6 to be in perfect working order.

And prices are SOARING on eBay for FCP 6 / FCP7. I’ve seen new, factory sealed, copies going for around $1,500-$2,000!

Just buck up and buy FCP on eBay. If you’re planning on being a pro editor, you’ll spend thousands to have and use proper equipment over the years. Get used to it. Now, I wouldn’t hold off on buying FCP on eBay because the prices and demand are going up every day! I bought a sealed Academic version for only $350 a couple weeks ago. I have one workstation that’s still on 6 and since Apple has given me choice for upgrades, I went this route. Only difference in Academic version is that you can’t get upgrade pricing for newer versions. Well, since there will be no more upgrades to that software, that’s a moot point.

Oh, and I would never buy “a serial number” online. I would look for a new, sealed, and never installed version if I were you. I’ve seen some crazy crap like “I have it installed on ONE machine so since it’s allowed to be installed on two, you are buying the licsense for the other machine”. Not good!
