If you use te Matrox MXO2 (and others in the Matrox family), you can calibrate perfectly! They have a calibration system that you can use on any ol LCD (or other) HDTV and it uses standard HDMI.

Good to know! I’ll probably new to update my esta card too. What eSATA car do you have? I think mine is a Caldigit Fasta or something like that. Just another reason I’ve held off on upgrading. Lemme know what card your using and where how you found our about the updates to your card?

BTW, even though drives are slightly more expensive right now because of the Thai floods, I picked up a 2tb Hitachi 720rpm drive from OWC for about $130. Not bad!

How did you do the upgrade to snow leopard? If you didn’t do a fresh install of the operating system, starting from scratch, you’re in for lots of trouble. I’m curious because I’m about to install a new 2tb drive in mac pro and install snow to start from scratch and upgrade from FCP 6 to 7 in a month or so and want to make sure it’ll be solid. If you just upgraded your system and didn’t do a fresh OS install, that would probably be your problem. For reference, I already purchased snow and 7 but have been waiting for my slow season to do the upgrade 🙂

I believe you can only view Prores on a PC. With the Prores decoder installed that is. There is no Codec available for windows. It only comes with Final Cut Pro (legacy or the new X). You also get it when you buy Compressor or Motion so you could buy either for $50 if you’re on a Mac to get the Prores codecs.
Your best bet if they’re on a Mac is to have them render out as DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, or they can download Avid DNxHD codec, export as that…you download it as well…free for both…and you should be fine. Prores is, IMHO, the best but won’t work for Win users. If oure on a Mac and it’s installed, it’s available from all video apps.

I watched the Avid webcast and after chatted w/ Avud reps. If you bought the $995 switch program before the cut-off for free 6 upgrade, the upgrade from 5.5 (or for anyone who owns 5.5 and didn’t buy it after October 15th) is only $299. That’s the same as it was for FCP 6 to FCP 7 upgrade so that’s not too bad.

Export as a QuickTime movie….not “using QuickTime conversion”…as full quality master. Be sure to make it a self-contained movie. Take that file into Compressor and create anything you need for delivery. Keep the master somewhere so you have the master for later

Just a shot in the dark but aye it’s because you used LT? LT is for offline workflows where you’ll online the better quality footage later. Try Prores 422 and it might turn out better. Other than that, it looks kinda like there’re interlacing issues going on here.
