Oh yea! 7200rpm is what you need…at the very least. But what you need to do is make sure that your media is always on a separate drive from your system drive. If its a Mac Pro, add another drive inside that’s 7200. If its a MacBook Pro, you need at least a 7200rpm drive that’s at least FW 400 or 800. A Thunderbolt drive wold be optimum. Check out GRAIDS!

720 x 480 is SD so you’re timeline is likely NTSC formatted and that codec really kills quality of video and graphics. Try a new project with settings of 720p HD and all should look right.

I’ll address the noise part…what you’re hearing is the fan on your graphics card. MacBook Pros have an extra graphics card that kicks in when needed for more robust apps. And it X uses the graphics card during renders to speed things up a bit. Because of that, the fan has to kick in to keep it cooler. But…X can use as much ram as you can through at it, so it will only help to put more in. BTW, usually MBPs have one open slot to add RAM to. If you’ve got 4 GIGS, get another 4 GIG module to add it in for a total of 8 GIGS. I’d check out macsales.com (OWC) to buy your RAM. They even have video tutorials to show you how to install.

You’re very welcome! It just struck me when I saw the “finalize disc” and Sony in there. I had a friend how always had trouble with one of those old mini DVD-r cameras and we were always trying to find fixes.

You might see if you can find a Sony DVD recorder (like a VHS player) and see if that will work. I know it will finalize discs made in another Sony DVD recorder so maybe it’d work. I picked up a refurb model on buy.com for $60 and it’s pretty nice!

Tell a what, ths is pretty nice on the iPad compared to all of the ther editing apps. Not enough transitions or effects (compared to Splice, ReelDirector, and others) but the ability to put your music and other audio wherever you want, and have several tracks of it, is super nice. I use the iPad to do fun projects while sitting on the couch sometimes and it’s…well, fun 🙂 Shoot on iPhone, transfer files using wifi transfer app, and edit on iPad. Heck Red Giant even has a MB Look type app for the iPad that’s under $10!
Won’t replace your pro tools but it’s pretty amazing what you can do…on a sub 1k tablet and under $100 of apps!
