  • Video Quality Reduced When Clip is Dropped into Timeline

I’m fairly new to Final Cut Pro X and everything is working perfectly except for when I drop a clip down into my timeline, the image quality is greatly reduced.

The video clips that I imported into Final Cut are either 1280 x 720 or 1920 x 1080.

My timeline appears to be set as 720×480 DV Anamorphic.

When I preview the clips in the clip window, they display the correct video quality, but right after I bring them down into the timeline the quality drops?

What is causing this to happen?

I’m assuming it’s due to the 720×480 timeline setting. If so, would an application like ‘Compressor’ help me revive my video quality when I export my finalized project from Final Cut Pro X?

    HELP!!!!!!

720 x 480 is SD so you’re timeline is likely NTSC formatted and that codec really kills quality of video and graphics. Try a new project with settings of 720p HD and all should look right.
