The brochure on line for the camera spells out the specs which in my opinion make this camera real lackluster in some critical items as well as image quailty considered the compression used.
It looks like there is no HDSDI output only HD analog which really blows.
If and when the GV Infinnity camera system is released I can’t see why anyone would choose the Sony camera given such a difference in image quality as well as 1/2 CCD versus 2/3″
Most rental houses I have spoken to have no interest in revamping their lens inventory by adding 1/2″ lenses instead of using their existing 2/3″ lenses.

Did you do any research on if any of your clients might actually need work completed in HD (any flavor).
In other words what type of ROI (return on investment) can you expect with your rush to invest in HD related gear? Or will the gear end up gathering dust with no hope of generating income?
The ” digital revolution” only applies if you can actually benefit from it as a successfully not just go along for the ride.

PS- Who am I to talk because as I write I am editing the annual christmas parade celebration on FCP. I just had a free moment while my rendering is going on so I jumped on the cow.

You are experiencing the “dark side” of FCP. Use the force to resist those “dark black” edits and use your powers for good.
But seriously could you provide more details about your problem? Are you inserting back to tape or a timeline? what vtr are you using? what is in your sequence etc etc?

Hire a freelance editor as they will work on a per need basis freeing you up from having them as a fulltime employee.
Depending on what your state labor and federal IRS codes are in your state you may need to pay them via a payroll company if they do not qualify as a subcontractor.

You should also check to make sure the 2nd camera actually was up to speed at the same timecode points logged for camera one.
A tip shooting multicam is to always call speed on set after all camcorders and/or vtr’s have reached speed so you will have a common timecode point to start your captures at.

FYI the term when you used free record is actually “free run” which implies both cameras were jammed synced to a common timecode generator.

If powering up one extra item is an issue then put all the gear onto one power strip which has an on/off switch and power up all the gear via the one power strip.
If you have alot of gear you many have to use multiple power strips but plug them into the main unit just be sure to make sure not to overload the amp capacity of the individual power strips. Most ac strips can handle up to 15 amps= 1500 watts but you need to allow for some overhead for surges.

If the insert options are graded out in FCP that is due to the fact that the 1200A will not allow editing back to tape in this mode. Any other graded out modes in edit to tape would indicate those features are disabled with the 1200A also.
Only the higher end dvcpro studio vtr’s have full editing mode capabilities.For what I recall you can only edit to tape using firewire not the SDI input when using the 1200A.
DF versus Non Drop have nothing to do with the vtr lack of response. These items only refer to the specific timecode mode used in the sequence or camera masters.
Drop frame will equal one hour of real clock time which is why broadcasters use this timecode standard whereas non drop timecode will be approximately 3 seconds 8 frames longer than one hour of real clock time.
Drop frame drops one frame at the top of every minute except for the zero and every tenth minute there after to sync up to one hour of real clock time which is why it is termed Drop Frame.

DVCPRO HD 720P is 720×960 recorded to tape
HDCAM is 1080×1440 recorded to tapeHDCAM SR offers 440 and 880 Mbps if using the SRW-1 field recorder
I not sure but I doubt JVC HDV can do full raster 720×1280 recording.
