No and why would it when one is working in SD the other in HD color space and resolution.

The 537 camera was a cheap industrial camera with minimal shielding and interference could indeed a possible problem.
One of the major differences between the lower cost industrial cameras and the higher end broadcast counterparts was the amount of shielding in the camera head.

Just understand if the one tv your paying client is watching happens to cut off the type and they jump and downing screaming about out it you will have no one to blame but yourself.
So to be completely safe use the safe title as your guidelines but fudging it a bit is acceptable as long as you are “safe” with any consequences.

I would avoid Maxell as I have had major problem in the past with that brand.

Seven page contract that sound like alot. The major rental house and myself all use a one page contract with small print to cover all the details necessary for the equipment rental to be binding.
What font size are you using 100 pt?

I do not believe this is the case as the dark compression problem has been a “dirty little secret” regarding the Varicam.

At the price point of the camera I highly doubt any of this will occur at the level of high end quality you describe.
Simple math from a sales point overshadows the higher math of high end cross conversion.

You really want it to look realistic like the original black and white film material.
Simple shoot the real stuff “motion picture film” at the same frame rate degrade the image and you got a realistic look instead of trying to fake it with video which never will be quite convincing.

The worst thing to do is cross convert twice i to p and p to i regardless of what converter is used. I have tested this several times and the results sucks in my professional judgement.
P to i much better but multiple times i to p or p to i and back to p should be avoided.
Staying as close to native all the way thru editing and saving the cross conversion to the final output is the best route to use.
Another thought is the original poster desires to edit in 720P they should have considered shooting in 720P and editing in dvcpro HD 720P natively and outputting to 1080i at the end much better results.

According to the newly posted HDX-900 brochure on the Panasonic website the CCD picture elements are 1370 (H) x 744 V, effective 1280 (H) x 720 (V). Based on this it looks like the 1080i is being internal uprezzed and is not native. A great test would be to compare a 1080i recording in camera versus recording at 720P and uprezzing via a Kona or vtr.
In anycase what else could we expect from a low cost camera compared to other cameras that can output the native resolution?
In addition the recording is not the varicam variable frame rate and is recorded in the HD-LP mode (AKA DVCPRO HD EX). The tapes themselves are the smaller medium size tapes not the larger size used in the Varicam hence forth you could not play back a HDX-900 tape in a varicam not only due to thet tape size factor but also because of the HD-LP/dvcpro HD EX recording. Lastly the HD-LP/dvcpro HD EX recording cannot be played back in the older HD150 or 130 vtr’s only the newer 1200,1400,1700 series.
I personally am awaiting detailed feedback about the robustness of using the HD-LP/dvcpro HD EX mode in the field under “real world battle conditions” versus the Varicam “DVCPRO HD” recording mode.
