Yes. You can’t change the Apple presets but you can duplicate them and change the duplicate.

You sequence settings are obviously completely wrong, hence the constant rendering. Unfortunately you can’t change the timebase of a sequence once there’s media in it.

You didn’t say what the frame resolution of your media or of your sequence is. Set the easy setup to the correct HDV preset that matches your media. Check the exact item properties of your media before you do this. If necessary make a custom preset. Then copy and paste the contents of the bad sequence into the new one. If the frame resolutions were wrong in the bad sequence you will probably have to reset the basic motion and perhaps the distort attributes of the clips.

If you have FCP6 or 7 then you must have ProRes available to you. It will be a codec in the QT export function. If you have an earlier version of FCP you probably should not be using OS 10.6.x. The full screen capture is not in a video standard frame resolution so it’s going to take a pretty good drive to support it, and you will not have much realtime capability in FCP.

You could use Compressor to make the conversion for you.

A screen capture using is intended to be shared on the Internet. If you want to edit the screen capture you should use specialist software like iShowU or Screenflow.

You can make a custom sequence that’s 2.35:1 and edit your video into that. Resizing and positioning the shots to get the best frame for your video.

In the current OS FCE will display video output differently from FCP, which is designed to more closely approximate a broadcast display, though it is by no means accurate. Your best workflow is to finish the project in whatever application you started, or to leave color correction to the end of the process and do that in the senior application with its more sophisticated and comprehensive tool set.

H.264 is an acquisition and delivery codec. It’s not intended for production use. You need to convert the media to a format and codec support in FCP. You should convert it to ProRes or ProRes LT. The audio should be uncompressed 48k as well.
