No that indicates that the sequence settings do not match the clip settings. Either the clips were not converted correctly or the sequence has not been set up correctly.

Please give the exact item properties of the clips you’re editing and the exact item properties of the sequence in which you’re editing.

If you don’t have the whole folder structure that holds the metadata for the .mts you should use ClipWrap to transcode to ProRes or ProRes LT.

You can do this in the QuickTime player but not within FCP I’m afraid. If you use the open in editor function on the clip you want, that should launch QT from inside FCP. You can play the interview and type in Pages for instance.

Maker a new bin in the browser. Select the clips in the sequence. Drag into the bin. Open the bin. Select the clips and use Batch Export.

Video footage should not be on your desktop. It should be on fast, separate drive dedicated to your media. What format video are you working with?

It’s freeware. Download it. No compromise in quality if you convert to a high quality codec, which I presume you’re already using. The video won’t get any better, but it won’t get worse.

Don’t. Simple answer. Don’t until the current project is complete. Unless you have some absolutely compelling reason that means you must upgrade. If so spell it out here to what’s so important in FCP7 that you’ll risk your project for it.
