1. “I start with a file that is 720×406” Where did that number come from? What are you using to rip Use MPEG Streamclip. It should be 720×480 anamorphic if the media is widescreen. Or better yet rip it directly to ProRes 1280×720.

2. is wrong because 1 is wrong. If you say No, who knows what you’re getting.

3. Anything is possible after 1 and 2.

What are you playing back from? Is the media on a hard drive or on a card? K and L work. Not J. Playback can be very sluggish if you’re playing off a card. There is no jog wheel or shuttle, but you can scrub the playhead, sort of.

This isn’t normal, intraframe compressed media. Most of the frames aren’t complete information. I-frames are complete, and subsequent frames read off it so playing forward is relatively simple. Playing backwards though is a problem. The first frame you encounter when you play backwards is probably not an I-frame so playback would have to skip backwards to find that I-frame before it could play the frame you want to see. That would be kind of a mess.

You’re missing something. Is your window divided in half, clip list on the left, viewer, controls, and logging info on the right? If not, trash your preferences.

Only by doing it in groups. Transfer the clips that go into one bin, then transfer the clips that go into another bin.

I’m afraid not. Probably the best things you can do is to use separate logging bins for each group of clips you want to label separately. There’s a little button below the clip list that shows you where your logging bin is set.

FCE is not effected up the FCP upgrade. You don’t need to uninstall it if you don’t want to.

Do you have mixed formats of media on the same card? That’s always a no no.

First back up the whole card. Then take in the SD material and back it up. Put the card back in the camera and manually delete the SD media. Then see if you can access the HD media.

Then the next question is what format you’re working in. There should be a preview checkbox. If it’s not there then it should be off by default. It may be possible that because you’re using an audio application simultaneously it’s being turned on.
