  • silencing audio during capture

Posted by Chris Gallaway on February 8, 2011 at 3:05 pm

    Hello, folks,
I’m using “Capture Now” to auto-capture several tapes for a project. I set the capture process going and then hide the window to work in other programs. Unfortunately, the audio from the tapes is streaming through my computer speakers while the capture runs; so I am unable to work with any other audio applications. I can’t find the control to mute audio playback during capture–surely there’s one in there somewhere. I would much appreciate any suggestions you can offer.

    Many thanks,
    Chris

Do not work in other applications while you’re capturing, particularly audio applications. It is liable to screw up the capture. In the log and capture window, in the clip settings pane, there is a checkbox that will turn audio playback off during capture. It should be off by default.

I’ve checked the clip settings pane before, but all I find there are controls to turn off audio capture (so that only the video is captured and the resulting .mov files are silent). I don’t have a muting control there in the clip setting pane of the log and capture window so that I can still capture the audio with the video but silence the playback. Maybe it’s just not possible to do that.

    Thanks,
    CG

Then the next question is what format you’re working in. There should be a preview checkbox. If it’s not there then it should be off by default. It may be possible that because you’re using an audio application simultaneously it’s being turned on.

That’s the one. It doesn’t appear in some formats, but it is normally off.
