All of the functions you mentioned are effectively crop functions. The widescreen filter is just a way of setting preset crop sizes. Another way is to make a a widescreen graphic with transparent center in Photoshop. I like that method a lot as it lets you do creative things with the banding area.

If you mean the auto select functions, Option-clicking will select one track and deselect all the others in video or audio. Cmd-1, 2, 3, 4 etc will select and deselect video tracks. Opt-1, 2, 3, 4 etc will select and deselect audio tracks.

I have not used it in FCP, but I have in FCE. It’s outstanding. The best motion control for the price, especially for large scale images, or multiple motion paths, for which FCP has always been completely hopeless. If you’re doing motion control of any complexity on images at twice or larger frame resolution, and you want to work within FCP, or FCE for that matter, you absolutely have to use this plugin, if nothing else try it to see what it can. Then try and do the same thing in FCP. You’ll never look back.

David means control- or right-click and from the shortcut menu pick default transition. Using Overwrite or insert with transition in the edit overlay will do the same thing.
Once the transition it added, as Tom said, they are locked together. Delete one and the other goes. Change the duration of one and the other change with it.

Multiclip sequence is supposed to be just for this purpose. It should allow you to break material into separate groups based on how far apart they are from a specified TC. You should be able to get not a multiclip with 28 shots, but a few multiclips with groups of shots. I’ve never tested it as I’ve never had access to that type of material, but that’s the theory of how it’s supposed to work, for exactly what you describe.
