Project capture is not for capturing single tape material. It is designed for re-capturing projects whose material is offline. To capture material into a new project you need to use the capture now or the capture clip function. You really need to read the manual or some other instructional material on how this applications works.

There isn’t any way to match frame back to the original clip from which the subclip was taken. You can however use Cmd-Opt-F to match frame back to a new copy of the original media file. This is not, however, the master clip that’s in the browser, but a new iteration of the master media file itself.

The windows layouts and bin order can be opened from any version of the application.

Favorites are more of a problem. You need to open an FCP4.5 project that accesses those favorites. Make a new project and drag the favorites bin into the project browser. Open that 4.5 project in 5 and then move the contents of the bin in the browser into the favorites bin the v5 project. They’re then be loaded into the FCP5 preferences file.

This is great if you’re working in an uncompressed, fully lossless format, anything else and you’re degrading the image with every pass.

What areas are they John? I don’t ask in an argumentative way, I don’t know enough about Avid, but I’m curious what you might see as being areas of functionality that it does better than Avid.
