I can’t reproduce this behavior in 5.1.1. Perhaps someone else can or there is some information you’ve not provided, but a basic LT project has transparency in the timeline regardless of where it’s coming from.

What do you have? If you think iDVD sucks, and you don’t have DVDSP, then what are you you going to do?

If you’re going to iDVD then export using QuickTime Movie, current settings, not self-contained if iDVD is on the same machine. Make sure you render everything and mix down the audio before you export.

It is still not the default condition. The preset selection has always opened up after you trash your preferences, but new sequences still automatically create a sequence in the selected preset. Cmd-N makes a new sequence with the selected preset. Cmd-Opt-N opens the sequence preset dialog before making the new sequence.

Mark the area you want to put the shot with In and Out points. Drag the clip from the sequence to the canvas edit overlay and drop on fit to fill.

Open the image sequence in the QuickTime pro player. Set the frame rate you need and export using the codec and frame size you need it to be. In my view that’s better than bringing all the images into FCP as one frame items and stringing them out in a sequence.

Cmd-Shift-A deselects all. The autoselect buttons control what tracks are selected with the V key. The lowest autoselected video or audio track gets selected with the V key. Cmd and the keypad number toggles the video tracks on and off. Option and the keypad track number toggles the audio tracks on and off.

Try trashing your preferences. Image+wireframe should not be switching itself off unless you’re hitting the W key.

The X marks the shot including the media for the transition. The overwrite cuts into the timeline at the marked I/O. There is no error message. The transition is gone because the edit extends to the full duration of the media including the transition. If you want to put in a shot and leave the transition you should use the replace function rather than mark I/O and overwrite.

“take 2 clips and cut them into a timline
put a dissolve between them, making sure to “start at cut”
mark the firsl clip
try and overwrite with a third clip, you should get the cannot split transtions error message”

I’m not seeing this behavior in 5.1. No matter how the transition is placed, marking the first clip with the X key always includes the media that’s part of the transition and will execute an overwrite over the whole length of that media for both video and audio.
