  • what’s up with slow motion?

    Hi,

I’ve had this question for some time but never dealt with it before. But I cannot go on…i need to know…after a quick manual consult I still can’t figure this out. It deals with slow motion.

Example: I have a feature length project with everything you would expect. I have two shots next to one another. I find the second one isn’t working – i want to delete it and slow the first shot down to cover the span of time that both clips once occupied.

Now when i do this fcp won’t let me or it will let me but it will push everything down the timeline. Defiantly unwanted. I simply want the first clip to run the length of time both clips once did without changing a single thing elsewhere. A college said that I cannot do that because fcp assumes i want to keep everything “in it’s place” and fcp will move everything down the timeline or won’t allow me to do it at all.

My college said that I must drag the clip to the end of the timeline, slow it down/make it longer and drag i back into it’s place.

I don’t buy it. There must be a faster more productive way to do this. I just don’t know how to prove him wrong because I usually never use slow motion but when I do it’s a pain…like tonight…

Dose anyone know what I’m talking about and how to deal with this issue. I hope everything was clear. I’ve been racking my brain and hitting it with the manual trying to figure it out.

    Thanks In Advance,
    Nate

Mark the area you want to put the shot with In and Out points. Drag the clip from the sequence to the canvas edit overlay and drop on fit to fill.

    All the best,

    Tom

    Hi,

Thanks for responding. I am pleased to say that it works really well. It’s a bit weird sometimes though – when the clip is long it seems to slide the in points down the actual clip so i’m slowing down another segment of the shot and i have to readjust it but non-the-less it worked really well with other clips. Thank you so much! Saves tons of time. I can’t believe I didn’t know this. Anyway, Thanks Again –

    Cheers,
    Nate
