It sounds as if you have linked selection switched off. Check the little chain icon in the upper right of the timeline. Make sure it’s green.

The iTunes music store issue is in the licensing agreement. It’s not something Final Cut can do anything about. That’s the deal that was cut with the record industry. It’s only allowed in their bundled software like the iLife apps.

MP3 is a highly compressed format. For playback it has to be decompressed on the fly while playing multiple tracks of video and audio. The performance degradation is too great, and it’s better if you convert the material.
Yes, other applications support this format, this one doesn’t. How high is on the food chain of things that need to be fixed or get improved? That’s any one’s guess, but I suspect not very high.

1. Actually I meant one goes on V1 and the other on V2. There isn’t any need to leave V1 empty.
2. You can scale each clip either in the Canvas with it set to Image+Wireframe or in the motion tab of each clip.
No need to cut and paste. With the two tracks visible in timeline you can cut away the pieces you don’t need with the blade tool. When you like it the way you want it and you have the clips the way you want them, change the scale back to 100%. Simply select all the clips and use the Remove Attributes function and check Basic Motion.

Stack to the two clips one on top of the other and reduce the of both to 50% so you can view them side by side in the canvas. Use the blade tool to cut up the clips to choose what you want to see.

No, no, don’t use DV Stream, the .dv format. That’s the file format used by iMovie. If you’re going to FCE you should export to QuickTime make a .mov file using the DV codec.

You mean change the speed to reverse? There’s a check box for this in the Speed dialog box.

Us the time remapping tool. Put the playhead on the frame you want to add the keyframe; click on the clip in the timeline with the tool snapped to the playhead.

You have to apply Center motion easing to the keyframes in the Canvas. It can’t be done in the keyframe graph in the Motion tab of the Viewer.
