How do you move clips from an iMovie project into FinalCutExpress efficiently
[I’m still using FCE v1.01]
If I use the iMovie “share” with best resolution, I get .dv files. When I import these files into FCE (using a drag from the finder onto the time line), I can view the cut, but any changes require re-rendering the audio.
I “solved” this problem by rendering the audio in the clip and saving it as an FCE movie file and then re-importing that file.Needless to say, the above method is very inefficient for more than 5 clips.
Is there a better way to import clips from iMovie. (The whole point of this exercise is so I can integrate clips from two cameras into the time line and not loose the previous editor’s work in iMovie.)
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi,
I believe the problem is that iMovie runs the audio at 32 khz, not 48 khz in FCE. I don’t believe that there is a way to get iMovie to export a 48 khz.You are using the same process that I would do if I had to change the settings. I’ve never use FCE, but if it has the ‘batch render’ then you could bulk render out the files.

Sure. You can use the Share function and export to QuickTime. It’s the standard QT export module with all available QT functionality including third party encoders.

Thank you gentlemen. Looks like there’s no quick and easy way to
preserve the lines between iMovie clips and “Share->best quality Q-time them.I ended up sharing each clip as a .dv file, importing the .dv clip into FCE, rendering “Exporting” it as a Final cut (non-standalone) movie, and finally dragging that movie back into the time line.
(Too labor intensive for my taste. -
No, no, don’t use DV Stream, the .dv format. That’s the file format used by iMovie. If you’re going to FCE you should export to QuickTime make a .mov file using the DV codec.
