FCE captures HDV in Apple Intermediate Codec, and does not edit natively, so it isn’t as processor intensive as FCP’s editing system. It is however more hard drive intensive as the data rate is about three times that of DV and native HDV.

What version of FCP are you using? I remember this as a bug in an older version. I can’t reproduce it in the current version. Exporting the frame would be the only way around it.

Can’t the browser finder search by specific columns? Isn’t there something like the codec that distinguishes the HDV material that you could search for all items?

You say you’re nesting a sequence. Could you say exactly how you’re doing this? What are you doing to make the nest? There are instances in the functionality you expect does not occur. Also could you describe what it you’re changing in the sequence that you expect to see in the parent or master sequence. What version of FCP is this exactly?
I don’t know why you’re bringing your exported sequence back into FCP. You could take it straight into Compressor.

The short answer is yes. You need to make sure you have a separate hard drive that is fast enough to support it.

What computer are you using? The display size has to be 1280. Watch out for the Dock cutting off some of the useable area.

Cmd-+ will zoom into the timeline. You need to do the audio editing with the shift key in the viewer.
