Try exporting from QT to a format supported by FCP.

Deselect the audio in the patch panel so the little lozenge buttons on the left side of the timeline window are uncoupled. Select the video button and make sure it’s coupled. Edit as normally into the timeline with the canvas overly, the buttons or the keyboard shortcuts.

Sounds like the project file has become corrupted. It’s sometimes a render file, sometimes the file itself. I’d start by dumping the recent renders. If it still doesn’t open, try finding a recent copy in the autosave vault that opens for you.

Or do you mean the duration of the current clip underneath the playhead? No way to do that in FCP except by using Open playhead sync and having the clip automatically load into the viewer.

You mean an In and Out marked in the Timeline? It’s in the duration value in the Canvas.

Make a DV 4:3 sequence and drop your edited HDV sequence it into. Or you could export a QT Movie of the HDV version, reimport that and drop that into the DV 4:3 sequence. It would speed up the render process.
