Both Red cameras were setup absolutely identically. The were running as master and slave.
The r3d files were within a few 100MB of each other.
The only thing I can think is that one camera had more noise due to a difference in flagging, which means that the output file has more noise, at a level I cannot see on any of the monitors I’m using to view. Even the waveform of the ProRes file is identical.

Checked again today.
In sys prefs/displays, it shows the LG at 5K and the XDR at 6K.
In fcpx, when you select the xdr display as program out, it says inside some brackets that are none changeable, 4096×2160@59.94Hz
My project settings in fcpx are 7680×4320@24p
The display looks absolutely incredible, and the performance with red media and prores 8K files is nothing short of staggering.

Just received our 16 core today. 192GB of RAM, an afterburner and a Radeon Pro II module is in ours. I’ve added a Radeon VII too, and will also add a m2 RAID, with perhaps a new Blackmagic PCIe I/o.
Luckily for us, we had Catalina on other iMac Pro models so the setup was incredibly quick and easy.
It is a beast in size and weight – so having it a place that allows quick access is crucial. Perhaps think we should have considered the rack mount version too……
With FCPX, it absolutely flies. Even with 8K red footage.

Yes, if you set your project resolution to your desired output format and then set the clip properties to “fill” it will perform the upscale or downscale for you.

It’s….difficult.
However, if you integrate frame.io well and work with exports and uploads of xml files, it can work very nicely.

I’ve seen tens of editors having to roll back because they can’t export anything at all, and a recent update to 2020 is forcing a runtime error for some dissolves and transitions which is only solved by not working from a server. Something seems inherently wrong with premieres code for such huge problems to arise from an update?

Adobe keeps rolling out the updates, as per usual, but they keep breaking. Didn’t a recent one stop any files being able to be exported from Premiere or Adobe Media Encoder?
So pleased to have moved away from that NLE for the time being.

This article? If it’s 5x faster than a top spec iMac Pro it’s going to be many moons better than a 2013 with red footage. Plus it’s all upgradeable
