Yes, I am now recording uncompressed, but BlackMagic’s disk speed app says my drive tests with plenty speed to record 8-bit.
Assuming that is the problem, why was I also unable to record in DVCHD 720p? That is a compressed format, correct?
Thanks for helping me!

ah, ok. that’s the kind of trick i was looking for. thanks for the tip.

Thank you, that does help some. By scrubbing with audio I can at least get lyrics lined up properly. But, there are still many effects I need to sync up rhythmically with the song – things that need to occur precisely on a drum beat, that scrubbing doesn’t provide a solution for – it really needs to be previewed in real-time.
Is there any way around a RAM preview that would allow for that?

wow, that looks really cool but that’s more than I’m paying for the whole Adobe Production Suite. that will have to wait for later – must prioritze.

Thanks for the great feedback.
I’m a little concerned about creative effects and transitions – I do a lot of that for promo and demo videos. i just downloaded the trial, so I’ll give it a shot.

Thanks man. I knew you had to be able to combine/create your own settings somehow – I’ve still got a lot to figure out.
I completely overlooked Encore! I’m just about done with this project, so I’ll get it a shot. I was going to throw it in DVD Studio Pro, but hopefully I can figure Encore out pretty quick.

Because of the number of glitches I found like this one where features don’t function, as well as frequent crashes, Apple is refunding my money. I am currently demoing Adobe Premiere and Avid Media Composer. I like Adobe, being very very similar to FCP, but being a ProTools user I am leaning towards Avid.
If anyone has any input I’d love to consider it.

August 23, 2011 at 6:51 pm in reply to: FCPx Glitch? Composition Settings do not work when retiming a clip.I’ve figured something out….still struggling to make it look right.
– Composition Settings do NOT work in a Storyline. It wasn’t the retiming that broke it, it was putting it into a story line, which I did to this and other clips in order to be able to put a transition on them.
– I can’t add a transition to the clip unless it is in a Storyline or a Compound clip.
– Transitions do NOT work in Compound Clips – for the duration of the transition, the clip is solid black, and then suddenly comes on after the transition is over or the transition just has no effect.
The only solution I can find to this is to add a white fill generator than I can apply a transition to and lay it over the top, but it’s not going to look the way I want it to.
yes, this portion of the video is an off-white background and I am trying to eliminate the pure white background of the animation clip I am using – normal solution is setting composite to darken or multiply. FCPx just added about 15 steps to accomplish this.

August 23, 2011 at 6:20 pm in reply to: FCPx Glitch? Composition Settings do not work when retiming a clip.I just discovered that none of my composite changes are working, even on a different clip in a different storyline.
I just tried compounding the clip and changing the composition settings both in compound timeline and the primary timeline, but no change. I don’t know what happened, but composition settings don’t seem to work AT ALL anymore. 🙁
So much for making money. This project is taking WAY too long. I should have stuck with FCP6.

Thanks for the ideas. I’m running a 64 bit 27″ iMac i5 w/ 8GB ram. there’s really no reason that it shouldn’t work. the only thing I can figure out is that I’m running Lion. I’m going to try installing FCPx on my Snow Leopard drive and see if that is any different.
