If it is only on one channel, it will be mono. If you center pan the channel it will go equally to both the left and right outputs of FCP

Convert the file to a 48 KHz aiff in another program.

    Import to FCP.

Double click the clip to load it into the viewer.

Set the pan slider to zero in the Stereo(a1a2) tab in the viewer.

    Export or play out.

There are probably better ways to do this, depending on what you are doing it for.

    Hi Glenn,

Great post. I just wanted to clarify what I think of when I say “learning how to learn.”

I think learning to learn is really learning to be comfortable and motivated when you haven’t yet achieved mastery

Operators usaully work in a live environment. If you haven’t done live TV, find a way in through connections and phone calls. Do you want to do news, sports or entertainment?

Designers on these systems also need to have a good understanding of how graphics are updated live, to make the disk work for operators.

Learn Duet, VizRT, and DEKO. Infinit!s are also still in many studios and trucks. Contact the manufacturers and be prepared to pay for training. Not sure what system is most common near you. There could be opportunity if you learn a system that is in your market, but not many people know. Solid knowledge of the box will help you over your inexperience in a live environment.

I’ve done my share of sleep deprivation. Some observations…

It is important that you get a sense for how your performance deteriorates over time. This helps you to know how fast you can go, and what you are likely to screw up, so that you build more double checks into your work flow as the hour gets later.

Do not drive after you have been up for more than 21 hours. Even if you have to nap in the car, do not drive. A friend of mine died going from gig to gig in the middle of the night. In his 20s, making a good name for himself, not making good decisions.

Manage your stimulant intake. Most of us are dependent on coffee or energy drinks. Anything stronger will shorten your life, besides being against the law. Not worth it in my estimation. There is a point where caffeine feels like jitters on top of a pool of exhaustion. This is a point for me when concentration is difficult, and driving at night is out of the question.

For me, any sleep is better than none. Not everyone agrees on this. I’ve tried plowing through

  • Confirm you have an in set on the text which is loaded in the viewer, and that the in is more than ten seconds before the end of the text clip.

    Click in the time line.

Set an in where you want the text to cut on.

Set an out where you want the text to cut off (ten seconds later.)

Confirm the source control and destination control buttons are connected. v1 (source) should be touching V1 (destination.) This on the left hand side of the time line.

Confirm your auto selects are all toggled on. These are to the right of the source and destination controls, just after the icon that looks like a lock. When they are toggled on they are dark on the inside.

Confirm all of your lock icons look unlocked.

    Hit F12

    Hi Eric,

You are probably aware of this site, but I thought I’d throw it out there anyway…

    https://mograph.net/board/index.php?s=a1d68e11df4a6ac722d7a36e5df7597a&showforum=3

This is not sports specific but I have noticed quite a few of the reels include some sports design.

Again, you are probably well aware of this, but it would be worthwhile to TIVO some games and fast forward to the design heavy elements.

If you are designing for the team, where will the graphics air – Jumbotron, commercials, does the team own a network?

Jumbotron design has some similarities to broadcast, but the display and audience are very different. Again I would try to go to some games and just check out the Jumbotron. Some stadiums and arenas do a very good job, others not so much.

    Good luck!

One version back, but it hits on all the most important stuff, with the exception of dynamic real-time which was added in 5.

Help > Final Cut Pro User Manual… Type dynamic real in the search box.

Option double clicking on a nest in the time line will also load it into the viewer. All depends on where your fingers are and what your habits are I guess.

This probably goes in the “if possible to see” category.

I work on EVS XT systems for sports applications. They are like the Profiile in many ways, but EVS specializes in servers.

At the venue I worked for NBC in Italy, the editor was controlling one EVS output with RS422
