If you don’t have a tri-sync source for 24fps, change the deck to run at 23.98fps and put the Kona reference to free run n the control panel and it should lock to the incoming video rather than your 29.97 reference to it. The Kona will “freakout” of it’s getting a 23.98 source with a 29.98 reference signal.
Also make sure that you are actually using the correct easy setup for your footage.

As for Betacam, I believe that the “official” designation of large and small cassetes is simply “L” and “S”. Large and small? could it be that simple?
At least that’s how the tapes used to be named when ordering them. In Sony’s service manuals the two cassette sizes are always referred to as S and L.

Are you adding a drop shadow in the motion tab? I’ve had some issues with green screen where adding the drop shadow would cause the image to flicker.

I have an Ilo DVDRH04 that has a Firewire input. It will only work with a camcorder or the like, not with FCP. The DVD recorder firmware looks for some kind of transport control, such as when it’s hooked to a camcorder. It pops up a small control panel to control the device. If it doesn’t find the device “controlable”, it will not record through the Firewire port. Very reliable otherwise.
I also have a Philips, but I haven’t tried it with FCP.

I’ve gotten around this before by doing the credits in Photoshop. I open up a new project with an insanely long canvas window. (480 x several thousand pixels “tall” at times) I just make one very large graphic, import it into FCP and add keyframes to roll the titles at the correct speed. Worth a try plus you can utilize all of the styles and features of Photoshop to compose the credits including embedding logos within the credits.

Another benefit to shooting in HD and downconverting to SD is noise reduction. Even though today’s cameras are “quieter” than ever in the video noise area when converting an HD scene into SD, the noise factor in the video is also reduced to a large degree. An otherwise quiet camera’s video is made even cleaner especially if any additional gain was used while shooting. Also, many if not most cameras today feature additional frame rate settings, especially 24p, that are not always available on SD camera. The price point of HD cameras is getting very comparable to SD.Plus you “future-proof” yourself if the footage is to be reused again some time down the road.
