Try to make separate bins within your Project window rather than just having the Project window be the “Logging Bin”. In other words, make a new bin for your footage within the project window, make that new bin your Logging Bin and batch capture from that bin. That should eliminate FCP from wanting to capture everything in your entire project window.

Also, Quit your project(s) BEFORE Quitting FCP to stop it from opening up the last project(s) you were working on when you launch the application. I always launch FCP from the Project itself and rarely by just launching FCP by itself.

Pretty simple actually. HD-SDI from the camera into the Kona3. Open Log & Capture in Final Cut, set the capture preset. Make sure the Kona is set to the proper input. Make sure you see video in the L&C window. Hit Capture Now. That’s really about it.
You will need a Raid fast enough to keep up and you won’t get timecode that’s related to anything in particular. It will just start at 00:00 on each clip.
Otherwise, not too complicated.

How are you feeding the video/audio to your camera? If you are going out thru the audio port on the back of the Mac, it might have reverted back to a digital output when you restarted it. Make sure that you are actually feeding analog audio to your camera if you are takeing your audio from the connector on the back of the computer. If you are going out to your camera via Firewire…Hmmm…not a clue.

I’m using Compressor2 for this project. I checked the same file on my MBP which is running Studio2 and Compressor3 and the setting is right there where it belongs. I don’t have that option on the version of Compressor I have on this computer. That would explain why there didn’t seem to be anyway to get this done. I ended up doing the “Brute Force” method, like Walter suggested, and just put the HD sequence into an SD timeline, futzed with it a bit and exported that. It worked fine. Guess it’s time to upgrade the old dog computer here. It’s frustrating since I’m running Studio2 on my MacPro and my MBP at home and I don’t have the same options here at work running on this old steam-powered Quad G5 running 5.1.4.

I’m obviously still asleep this morning. I’m using Compressor2 on this machine. Where in the DV50 preset Inspector do I check to make a letterboxed output of this HD file? I’ve tried various combinations and I get an anamorphic 4×3 each time. I’m missing something simple here. I really don’t like Mondays…zzzzz

As far as I know, they haven’t tried playing this disc on any other system. It’s playing out of a PS3 via HDMI to a consumer LCD TV. I don’t have any control over this aspect of the project so I can’t verify that their setup is correct or not. They say that a commercial BluRay looks OK so it could be setup correctly but I can’t say for sure.
All I can say is that the mPeg file looks good before going to disc mastering.
It reminds me of when I worked an an engineer in a large TV production truck. We would check our signal constantly on it’s way to the satellite. When we got a report that something didn’t look right on the other end, we would recheck things on our end again but our response, more often than not, was “The picture looked good when it left the truck.” It’s kind of the same situation.

You will need the part number for the panel.
Otherwise there are MANY of these machines on eBay right now. You could pick one up and salvage the PC board out of it. I haven’t torn down an 1800 but it’s not usually too difficult to do the front panels.
Depending on your location, there may be a service site that could help out as well.

The entire video ends up looking “jaggy” when the resulting BluRay is played. The MPeg files look fine before burning. Not sure on the settings since I do the compression on my home machine using Compressor 3. I only have Compressor 2 here at work. Ironic huh?
