-Compose your graphic as usual
-Put a blank layer on the bottom
-Select the blank layer
-Merge Visible and save in a format that supports an alpha channel. I usually save as a .png.

Thanks for the tip Chris. Looking at the card, however, it appears to take up two slots in width. Although there are only a single row of connectors, it would appear that it’s double wide card with a cooling duct taking up the additional width. I’ll do some more research, but can anyone verify whether it’s a single or a double card?

In a nutshell, good for News. Not so much for Production.
You’re not working for a Young Broadcasting station are you? Last I heard is that was their plan-to install Edius systems company wide and dump whatever else was in use-mostly Final Cut/Mac systems.
If so, the production guys at the local Young station in this market are not very thrilled about loosing their Final Cut systems either. Decisions based on the bottom line are not always good decisions for those involved in the aftermath.

If your two tracks are stereo, pan them to center and export only one channel as an .aiff. Import into FCE. That should do the trick.

I blew the video card out of my 2 year old MacPro a couple of weeks ago and was dead in the water. Even with an Apple Care service contract the folks at the “Genius Bar” still told me that my card was “too old” and that they didn’t have a direct replacement for it available. They (Apple) finally found a refurbished card in another city and had it sent to me. Granted, it was on their nickel. Don’t get me wrong about Apple. I bought my first Apple computer in 1981-an Apple II+ and I’ve been with them ever since. But a two year old card can’t be replaced? C’mon…

Right.
Even when it seems like a simple question with a simple answer, that’s not always the case. There seems to be a lot of people in the same situation looking for Leopard. Judging from the number of responses to nearly every posting of Leopard for sale on eBay, it looks like there are a LOT of people looking for this older software. Just about every post for Leopard has MANY people bidding on the item. And the prices aren’t too attractive. If you look at the entries, it might not seem like the price is not too bad, but like most items on eBay, the price will jump dramatically at the end of the suction. There are a lot of older G5’s still in service and they are still useful. It’s just too bad that Apple has such a propensity for obsoleting their hardware so quickly. My G5 was an End of Life product less than 4 months after I took delivery. Can my MacPro be far behind? I can still get some use out of the G5 as a file server, but it’ll be more difficult with the limited networking afforded by Tiger.
I’ll keep looking but there are times when the “simple” isn’t.

I did, however try a Google search first off but as Phillip mentioned earlier, any place that’s still selling it is very expensive-over $200 in fact. I was hoping to find a more reasonably priced outlet to get it. I can get a Snow Leopard update for $29 on Amazon and right next to that is a Leopard update priced at $220! Doesn’t seem quite right, does it?
