Fade to Black
How do you do a fade to black so that all layers at the end of a sequence goes solid black. Avid used to have a built in effect that you put on the top layer of video and all layers under it goes to solid black. I put a slug down and tried to do both fade out and cross dissolve, but the top layer that contains an alpha channel falls apart during the dissolve and shows through.
Any ideas? Should be simple.

I would just take a slug, put it on the top most layer, and then simply set the opacity to go from transparent to full black at what ever rate of time you wish. Instant master fade to black.

Nest the tracks and apply the fade to the nest.”Be aware of the consequences of nests further down the post path, like handing over for grade and online. Those nests will have to be undone before sending to Color (for instance) or Media Managing.

Nests, while a great concept, are a mixed blessing and can cause as many problems as they solve.Scott Sheriff
