That’s about all there is to it. I would suggest that rather than cutting up an existing cable, you just order the correct connector and either solder the tally cables to the pins or but a connector that you insert the pins into. Both are inexpensive and easy to do. Or you could use a pre-made 25 pin cable that terminates on a breakout board. With that you can just attach the tally cables directly to the board. Since all of your equipment is Sony, it should be pretty straight forward.

Did the talent have their own mics? Did you also have a microphone on your camera that is picking up the background noise? If so, do you have this track(s) turned off on your timeline?

It could be consumer-level LED lighting? It’s notorious for causing all kinds of problems with video cameras.

I’m going to venture a guess that the original spot you have was edited using Final Cut X. Do you have that or only 7?

I don’t believe that that the earlier (or any) DVX-100 cameras actually recorded at a true 24 FPS rate. I think they actually recorded 24 over 30. Your 24fps footage is likely 29.97fps in reality.

I’ve had weird issues like this every once in a while depending on where the effects come from. Just for grins, go into your timeline settings in the Sequence Settings tab and change the Processing to 8-bit rather than 10-bit. It’s a long shot, but it might work.

I just used Compressor to convert ProRes to DNxHD and it seemed to look OK. It was actually one single 200Gb clip (a college football game) and it took a few hours but I didn’t notice any abnormally messed up chroma when it was done. I used the Quicktime Component option in Compressor.
