December 2, 2014 at 6:11 pm in reply to: Rendering and Exporting and Compressing Question…I haven’t posted on this thread for a while, but as we have clearly opened this discussion again, from what I’m now reading, with me currently editing NATIVE EX-3 and EX-1 footage in Premiere 7.2.2, if I import the BPAV, edit native, 23.98 XDCAM-EX, and export it out NOT 23.98 XDCAM-EX, BUT 23.98 Apple Pro Res, the master file is BETTER quality, correct? AND, is this an industry norm for this kind of footage? Exporting to ProRes does improve the image and preserve data, or is it just better, with no major reasons? Is this what most TV and Reality people do with editing 23.98 XDCAM-EX and want to export a general use master, export to Pro Ress, or Pro Ress HQ?
Thanks,
Tom

Michael, thanks for the follow-up. Yes, I purchased this copy of Avid, so it’s my own copy. When I orginally installed it, it walked me through an install, and registration setup, so, I guess my question would be, if I did re-install it, all the same set-up, will my license just run out as planned in 4 years, whether or not I’m under any subscription model? In other words, I’m thinking the subscription doesn’t apply to those who own it on a student, or faculty, or edu-version basis, correct?

October 15, 2014 at 10:48 pm in reply to: CUDA update causes Premiere Pro 7.2.2 to crash on startup!Kevin, so you’re saying that adobe Premeire 8.0 can’t run on my Mac that’s running OS 10.7.5, is that correct?

October 15, 2014 at 2:47 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro CC 2014.1 doesn’t import shortcutsDid you plugins import ok? Open up an older version project like in 7.2.2 and sync your keyboard shortcuts to your adobe account and user settings. Close project. Open a new 8.0 project and you should be able to access your shortcuts in theory as your new or first usage of 8.0 requires a login to start the trial, but since you own it, it should auto detect your account. I’ve also heard of people manually going into their adobe project folders related to previous projects and finding their plugins folder and copying those over into where your new adobe 8.0 install folder is located and pasting it into the plugins folder, so they can use their old plugins in a new version. You may try finding those files related to your user or profile settings and see about copying that file(s) into the folder in 8.0 that houses your 8.0 profile data. I’d try those few things or contact customer support.

October 15, 2014 at 2:36 pm in reply to: CUDA update causes Premiere Pro 7.2.2 to crash on startup!I guess my next question would be don’t you have to have some form of cuda or a cuda driver installed to run Davinci Resolve, or when you install DR, doesn’t it automatically place a cuda driver on your Mac? I read on a forum about someone saying this is how DR mounts from cuda or from off a detected cuda driver? I also read on another forum where people deleted the cuda framework folder from in their library on their Mac and that helped, but I’m nervous not to delete any library framework folders on my Mac risking functionality issues. As long as I don’t upgrade my cuda driver to the newest driver, premiere runs ok as before, but like I mentioned, it doesn’t make sense anyways, cause I don’t have a nvidia card anymore, I’ve got an ATI 5770 inside.
There is a problem I’m having with detecting a newly added 3rd monitor, Mac doesn’t see it. Does this mean I need to update my ATI 5770 driver? And is that safe?
Last question: with this ATI 5770 card being “Open CL” can I use my system ram for premiere or is this still a run on software only issue still? I’m running software only, cause I think my card isn’t supported. Does the new Premeire 8.0 support more cards like ATI 5770?
Thanks,
Tom

Michael,
Bought and reviewed Diug’s dvd, it was so helpful. I even used his picture profile versus some others and concluded his to be the best, especially love the matrix set to shoot “HighSat”, saves me from having to add a little emote saturation and contrast in post, which can make e image slightly noisier.
Any thoughts on how you like to set up and better achieve Depth of Field?
I shoot mostly, with gain at -3db, if this even matters.
Also wanted to ask you about your thoughts on picture sharpness, if you do anything to help this in camera or in post. We live in a Dslr world, so editing this footage then editing ex1 footage, I wonder if I can continue to improve ex1 sharpness in a more organic way, rather than adding a tiny bit of sharpness in post.
Thoughts?

Sent my camera to Sony in CA, as Ian directed. I would not feel comfortable doing any updates myself, regardless the similarly of it, when it comes to firmare. Sony cleaned it, updated it my ex1 to latest firmware v1.30, and shipped my ex1 back in about a week, and I popped in a 64 gb and a 128 gb card, and they read and recorded just fine. I also popped in my $24 sxs Digigear adaptor and my $29 64 gb transcend sdxc card, and it right pulled up, read and recorded just fine.

Use an air can and spray slot out. Reformat a few cards in it. Try recording to the card, pop card out, place it back in, check media recorded ok. Reformat card, so this a few times, shoot, test, reformat. If problems continues send it to Sony!

I still use the old clip browser to do all of my ingesting, and Sony log and transfer to export or rewrap. If it works as a standalone, keep using it. Then import into fcpx. I still use compressor 3 even though I have compressor 4, some presets just work better. Stick with what works for you, especially with audio channel issues.
