    Hi Andrew,

My P2 32gig Fuji card works just the same as the pana 32gig cards I have, (and was less expensive) try asking your local Fuji Media supplier, that’s all I did and three days later I had it in my hands.
maybe my supplier can ship to the US ?, I think that they are limited in supply quantities though.

    Cheers

    Hi Jeremy,

I just asked a Supplier of mine who sells Fuji products and he said they get me one to test so I bought one.
Maybe they are not ready for major release as yet ?. (Doug) I paid a couple of hundred less than the Pana 32gig is selling for.

November 1, 2008 at 10:16 pm in reply to: P2 Card alternative – Question

    Hello Noah,

I chased up the Fuji p2 card and one 32gig is being delivered with-in next two days, I’ll report as soon as I give it a whirl, Price was a couple hundred Aussie dollars cheaper than the Pana 32 gig card.
In my situation with five slots and a big percentage of my work is long form every dollar on cards saved is important.
I’ll dump my 4 x 8gig on ebay and buy more 32’s as time passes.

    cheers

The best solution would be, if Apple Put back the PCMCIA slot reader into the MacbookPros even as an otion or better as a twin card reader, AND made Leopard recognize it as Tiger Does.
But that would be too sensible as they consider PCMCIA as Old technology, and are pushing the newer expresscard .
Maybe some third party manurfacturer can make this as an option.?

One would have thought that Panasonic would “marry” their 5 card reader into a Laptop , a single purpose unit , it would only add say $500 to the cost of their Current Card reader.

Now that would be a unit that could take P2 forward.

    Hi Johnathon,
If your running Leopard OS, make sure you format your Spare OS drive as “GUID” not mac extended ect.
it’s a choice in Disk utility.

    Hi Jeremy,

Yes, I have done that too, I used an old Quicksilver Mac Dual 800, I installed Four SIIG PCI PCcard readers in the CI slots ,loaded Tiger OS 10.4.8. that OS is rock solid on reading P2 cards. Leopard is another story.
Everything comes down to your Budget, if you have an open budget get the pana solutions, if you as many cannot justify that outlay, you have to make do with what is less expensive.

PS, The best SIIG card readers (about $50each)are getting very hard to find.

    Hi Johnatan,

Now that you have re installed, MAKE a Bootable back up OS onto an external hard drive, they are dirt cheap and will save your bacon when things go west in the OS.
I use Carbon copy cloner and it can install only the altered files in a Bcak up, that just takes a few minutes to restore an OS that is misbehaving.

    Hi Jeremy
May I agree, If you have the funds get the 5 card reader USB/Firewire connect. I made an Amtron Single slot reader work in my Intel Macpro, just waiting for final tests prior to release of DIY kit.
All up cost of Hardware and Driver kit I believe will be under $300US. some info on my site.

    Hi Paulo,
If you saved money then it’s a bargain, Take it out and run down the street with it recording, do everthing you mentioned and if it works , then all is good, Seriously though, you can get a lemon even with new gear, don’t stress, just put it thru it’s passes and do it fast so your supplier can’t say you sat about waiting for a problem to come up.
