I was just using the space bar hand tool (à la photoshop) and didn’t get the pen back when I had let go.

Somewhat tedious but your workaround does work.

I like that favourites method. For me, I think that, for pure mass data entry purposes (I am doing a lot of titles on this edit) the opacity workaround works quite well.

That is where I get the problem with motion deselecting the text tool. It may well work in shapes but in my current experience, not with text.

Obviously, if I make the change after typing, it goes back to “Normal” the next time I use the type tool..

I’m working purely in motion here. When I start typing, the text is white and thus I cannot see what I am doing. If I try and change the style before typing, the type tool deselects. It seems that I can only change style or colour when I have started typing.

All I want is for the text to be a different colour, so that I can see what I am typing. I can change styles later..

My current workaround is to reduce the opacity of the base layer.

All your Macbreak studio stuff has been a godsend. I will be purchasing some of your ripple training which, if your publicly available stuff is anything to go must be super stuff. If you are ever in London (before they sink from all the rain w’eve been getting) then I would love to buy you a drink.

Your answer is far easier than what I was doing in that I didn’t realise you could just move the playhead and paste. That and I was changing the interpretation to linear as opposed to constant (is the answer to “what is the difference between them” in your “getting started” tutorial?)

Nonetheless, for the sake of simplicity it would be nice to have some sort of “duplicate state” command in Motion.

It might. I’m not a mega genius in motion (to put it mildly) but I think that might point you in the right direction.

I’m embarrassed to say that I forgot about the “feature” whereby the playhead on the main timeline is not at the same place as the playhead in the either the angle viewer or in a compound clip.

I can now see the footage I need if I go to the correct point in the timeline.
