These links now, unfortunately, seem to be defunct.

Correct. Not sure if it is intermittent…

    Duh. Just worked it out…

Although I am having an issue whereby I am transforming the compound clip and the generated clip within it does not seem to be moving.

It’s in the ProRes file taken transcoded from the camera footage (Sony FS-700)

I’m not sure that this is the issue here as Activity Monitor shows 15-18MBs when playing.

This morning the issue seems to have gone away but is bound to come back…

All was working fine on Saturday. Only after booting up yesterday did the prob appear. The project had already been sent to client as a first draft.

While this is the first time I have seen the sound cutting out (again, with levels displaying correctly and no jump in video) it seems to be symptomatic of a larger problem which appeared when I was deep into another project ( before .8 but I think after .7):

While the skimmer works fine, I am getting a beachball for a good 3 seconds when hitting the space bar ( and far longer if I hit J (play backwards)). This happens after trashing prefs and logging in as another bare bones user.

I cannot be sure if the problems are interrelated but the other project was canon eos and chroma (which, hitherto, I thought was the problem…)

    Dear Glenn Glennovich,

I would try avoiding the DVD route in your situation. Obviously look at Nicholay Nicholayovich’s solution first.

In my DV days, when confronted with dodgy tapes, I would an analog copy (if you have the kit). I found it better than going via MPEG 2 of DVD’s but that was probably completely subjective..

Does FCPX insist on start-stop detection? Hardly necessary for a few blades…

    Good Luck,

Your guess is probably as good as mine on this, but let’s try and think this through together and perhaps your answers to my questions will shed some light for you, me or someone else.

the clips you imported, were they from rushes or from the final cut?

In the finder, what are the names of the clip files? (I and, others I’m sure) have not worked with FCPX and tape.

How did you import it? 7toX?

Are the resorted clips actual individual clips or are they keywords?

Perhaps a couple of screengrabs might enlighten us.

Does the template include source media?

I can’t be sure, still being vaguely Noob in the whole Motion/FCPX world, but I am wondering if it is having trouble locating some of the source media…

    Hi Alex,

A closer study showed that the z-index, as opposed to scale, was used in the above effect. No matter, I made z index publishable, but there is still no movement in fcpx.

Is it therefore the case that if a parameter is published then it is essentially re-set in fcpx? And that one has to create a widget to override that?

I am away from my kit this weekend so cannot look.

    Love your blog/work btw.

Presumably because more frames = more data
