I know that the PM wont trim files that use a lot of compression like H.264 . I am not sure this applys to Arri files.

I have a similar system (Z820, 2-2687 CPUs, 64 GB). The one difference is I have a Dulce DQg2 16TB external raid system.

I think one of your issues might be the 1TB (1 disk) internal raid.

There are also some parameters on the Z820 that need to be tweaked to get the best performance. My system has no issues playing clips from H.264 to Red.

Hi guys,

Ouch, yes, this is broken. Sorry about that; I’ve put the bug in the system. The workaround is to open your comp in AME and encode there.

A little background info: In CS6 we added two new classes of codecs to the MXF OP1a encoder, AVC-Intra and XDCAMEX. All of those codecs have this failure (AE applies an incorrect output constraint) except one, AVC-Intra Class50 1080 correctly constrains to 1440×1080@1.33. Under the hood we have to manually write the constraints for each format into AE, so it looks like we goofed this when those codecs were added.

So please use AME for encoding to MXF OP1a if you need to use AVC-Intra or XDCAMEX codecs. The other codecs (DV, IMX, XDCAMHD) use the correct constraints.

Thanks for the info Shane. Actually Ive already started using Paragon and with a little guidance I have already done what they call a Disk Migration to a bootable driver. It brings over both the boot/windows partition and the apps. Its very quick. And Ive successfully tested the copy by booting off it.

My experience in CS6 can now be described as WOW. Everything is faster and more responsive. I feel like Ive gone from a VW to a Lotus. 😀

I recently made the jump. I dont regret it, but owning and operating a PC is a bit harder then a Mac.

Why not just use the Warp Stabilizer? It has a much less learning curve then Mocha.

If you decide to use Mocha, you must make sure its interpreting your footage correctly when you import it into the project (ie Progressive or Interlaced / aspect ratio / frame rate) because sometimes it needs help.

Alex, the problem only affects the writing phase of exporting QT files (H.264 and DNxHD are what I needed to export when I bumped into this mess).

It even affects MPEG Streamclip so it appears to be related to HP / Win 7 issues.
