Well, my communication with HP paid off and the delivery time got escalated. The computer and monitor arrived today!

After arrival it was….assembled…tested….GTX 570 got installed…Caldigit Raid was configured…with some minor bumps along the way, but nothing unexpected. Boy, the security measures that Windows need to protect itself are draconian compared to OSX. I understand the need, but it sure makes some things that should be simple, a little less simple.

So, all is well and relocated back into the bay. Next is software installation and KVM (Starcraft) implementation. Then the fun begins. I like how the Z820s user friendly design is reminiscent of the Mac Pro. Swapping cards and stuff is logical, accessible and easy.

Regardless of where I may fall in the PPBM6 speed chart, I feel lucky to be able to jump from an early 2008 Mac Pro (still in service for mail and internet) up to the Starship Z820. With 2 fun music videos under my belt recently, its time to explore new frontiers.

I’ve found that MSFTs Anti Virus (security essentials?) is the least invasive and least likely to cause other problems. It’s recommended by Windows Secrets, which is about the most professional site out there for tracking that stuff. I have seen and trouleshot too many issues with norton to recommend it. With the MS package you’ll not feel much difference than using Intago on the Mac to protect it.

If you are converting over, I’ve found that Outlook is great for both managing email, and I use it’s journal features to track my time daily. It’s simple and you don’t need to exit Outlook touse it.Outlook on the mac was a problematic piece of software.

Enjoy your new machine, I likely will buyone when my Dell dies. You’ll find the decrease in rendering times amazing, from my experience.

Hi Al. Thanks for the tips.

Yes. MSSE is what I installed. I will continues to use my Mac Pro for mail and internet stuff, just to avoid Murphys Law .

I am looking forward to seeing the performance boost but still have a bunch of stuff to do before I am able to edit.

    I wholeheartedly concur with that.

I have it running on all the pc office systems at work and home.

Hey Tom, what was the final invoice cost on the Z820?

By the way, Tom. I thought the last music video that you recently posted was excellent – good work!

Jan Im near the end of massive app installation and windows updating and some tense moments where Windows went away to a black screen and eventually came back. Updating or encrypting, not sure what its was doing but all is well now.

Chris my configuration is not typical. I got the fastest processors (2-2687) but only the Quadro 600 so I could replace it with the GTX 570. I got 1500GB System/Apps drive and 3 of the same data drives. Also the big 30 monitor, 5/5/5 warranty, 24/7 repair at my place, blu ray writer and 64GB of ram. After 27% off for the computer, some discounts off the service warranty and free next day shipping Id say about $11,000. Which is much better then what it might have cost.

    keenly interested in your experiences….

I’m OS agnostic…but all my hardware is old on both platforms…
