And adding to Marks fine suggestions, try to light the green screen with

I am not familiar with Apple Keynote, but I can tell you that FX Factory has an immensely choice of very creative transitions for FCP. And if that isnt enough, CGM Video also has a wide variety of innovative ones as well.

I agree with Walter,for my money Primatte is the way to go. Ive used it for 12 years with Avid DS and with FCP/AE (where I prefer to do any compositing or efx work). It is quick to use, powerful to control and does the best handling of detail (like hair) that I have sen.

Phil, theres no need to be so defensive and self righteous. I was merely reporting my personal feeling on my experience with iMovie which shares
certain qualities with FCP X. I realize they probably differ in many ways. But I found the editing process unpleasant and reported it as such. Your mileage may vary from mine. 😉Tom Daigon

Calm down everybody. According to informed sources elsewhere on the web …there is a viewer. you can mark in and out, you can 3 point edit and you can turn off any new option you dont like. And if you turn most of them off you have something that looks a lot like FCP 7 so quit PMSing 😉

Eric, I also feel the $400 point upgrade is ridiculous. I understand that last year was a big enhancement to CS5, so I didnt expect a lot from NAB this year.But for what they are offering $400 is an insult. I certainly WILL NOT upgrade. I can get more bang for bucks with other investments. And since I use FCP for all but compositing and effects, the addition of Audition (which is still weak compared to Soundtrack Pro) is no great motivator for me.

Thanks for your observations Tim. I will address each of your points.
Just in case you missed my original point, I am searching for the kind of innovative and customizable TRANSITIONS that are now available for FCP to be available on PP since there is a strong chance I will be switching in the near future.
1. I have been in contact with Todd and have acted as a catalyst with both CGM and FX Factory.

Fx Factory said…”We can certainly agree that the documentation of Adobe’s SDK is far better than Apple’s, but when it comes to functionality the Premiere Pro API is very limited. Please keep in mind that some people don’t even consider the native Premiere Pro plug-in API, and judge Premiere by its support for the AE plug-in API. (The link you offered is for the native Premiere Pro SDK, which almost no-one uses and Adobe itself doesn’t recommend.)
2. I was given a link to the SDK which I provided both vendors in order to start the ball rolling.
CGM is testing the water and FX Factory is not.
3. Speed (or the lack of it) was an issue with New Blue, which they explained was due to their multi app support. Saphhire has maybe 12 innovative transitions in a package that sold for about $1300, They were the exorbitant example, since cool transitions are ALL I need. Boris has none to speak of. And Spice just didnt have what I was looking for (mostly “organic wipes”.)
So there you have it. Hopefully I will be beta testing some transitions in the near future. I hope my motivation will provide PP users some neat options.

I have done extensive research and testing of the current plugins that involve transitions (i.e.Sapphire, SpiceMaster,New Blue) and found them to be severely lacking in several areas. These include shortcomings like pedestrian effects, bad coding causing slow rendering, limited options for control and variation of the transition or exorbitant pricing for a very few effects.

Eric, I think what Edward is suggesting is that I run Proanimator as a stand alone program to create the animation then import it into AE until they have the 64 bit versions completed.
Previously Proanimator was BOTH a stand alone AND a plug in to AE on the 32 bit platform. I would guess that will be the same when they become 64 bit.Avid DS/FCP Editor
