To compare Color to the limited color corrector I saw demoed is like comparing a Ferrari to a VW bug. Sure they both are modes of transportation, but the power and scope of one is much more than the other. This is based only on what I saw at the sneak preview.

  • Michael, to answer your question, I have been playing with Premiere and After Effects (my go to efx stapie) since CS5 came out. It is a strong contender if FCP X doesnt fit my needs. After 6 years on Avid MC and 12 on Avid DS Im not really interested in heading in that direction and have no real market forces pushing me there.
After learning CMX 3600, Avid Media Composer,Avid DS, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and all its support programs (Mocha, Camera Tracker, FX Factory, Syntheyes, Trapcode, etc) another program maybe time consuming but not daunting. I guess that liking to read manuals adds to my enjoyment of the learning process with this stuff.

Thanks. I have the ATI Radeon card which explains why I had no problems.

Sometimes Mike the issue IS the tool. If you have 500 holes to drill in a short period of time and your choice is to use either a hand drill or a power drill, obviously the tool you use is critical to your success.
Now substitute the drill concept with NLEs. One requires you to manually transcode all footage to edit with, and one allows you to power edit immediately with no transcoding at all. Since you are so mature about things, Im sure you can grasp the concept presented here. One system is efficient (Adobe, Avid) and the other is not (FCP 7). I wont waste and time speculating on FCP X until I have it in hand.

Hey Stephen, I just saw an image on your home page. Is that Tim Nelson sitting in the clients chair. I lived in SLC for 18 years and worked as an editor at STS. I could swear I know that profile 😉

Check out FX Factory and CGM Video for the most creative and interesting plugins Ive come across for FCP (FX Factory also works in After Effects).

Gary – “I still prefer Log and Capture as it is the only way you can add Reel Names and Timecode to your clips.”

Gary, unless Ive misunderstood your last post, you do know that the EOS Log and Transfer plugin allows you to add both reel name and TC to your clip when injestting, right? Its the only 5D/7D workflow that does this to my knowledge.

John, I made the same mistake. The new version IS there. You just need to select “MAC OSX” and you will see the download for that file.
