I checked in AE . No morph. But really, you want a transition that you can drop on your timeline. Fiddling around to make AE create transtions would slow you way down.

I suggest (if on a PC since Mac version isnt out yet) Boris Red 5.

Since Murphy s Law is always a factor, I suggest doing each clip separately within one AE project

Jim that a very good question that I would like to know as well. I do know that with a dynamic link between PrP and AE you can go back and forth as much as you need. But that is different that round tripping between PrP and Audition. Lets hope someone with helpful information responds.

At first glance this doesnt make a lot of sense. You are saying that you edited R3D footage (which is either 2k or 4k in size) and had no problem.
And you are replacing it with Prores (1920 x 1080 -but which version) which could be at least 4 times smaller than the files you originally cut, and you now have lag.
I would close the project and delete both caches (data and media) . That might help. Im guessing you are editing from a high speed external array or else you would have had problems with the R3D media. Usually by right clicking in the right Program Monitor screen you can drop from full resolution to aid playback as well. It certainly is a curious situation.

The point in sending you that link had nothing to do with Dynamic Linking. I was showing you that someone else has been experiencing the undesired precomp creation syndrome going from PrP to AE and that they were in touch with Todd Kopriva who works for Adobe quite a while ago. He may have an update for you if you contact him or flag him down with a post on this forum.

Thank you for your input. I ended up going with an iMac and Premiere Pro CS5.5. So far, so good.

Chris, Im not sure an Imac is the best choice. Do a little more research and make sure its processing power, ability to interface with external raid systems and graphics card (supporting CUDA) will be able to do the job for you. It might be OK, but I know at time my 8 core Mac Pro is challenged with certain types of formats. 😉
