Pat, be forewarned that some folks with the latest Mac Pro are reporting some concerning issues running Premiere Pro. If you are planning to use that NLE you might want to research this before it impacts you after making such a major investment. Personally, at this juncture I think buying a Mac is a mistake, but that really is a reflection of my desire to buy a PC and have better performance than Macs seem to offer. Right. In that case this calls for the Adobe experts. Call the Adobe Support Tech phone number (Google for it). Ask for Vinay. He knows his stuff.

Gerry, are you using the Media Browser Panel to bring the clip in from the original EX3 folder or just importing into the Project Panel?

Tim, based on this quote for HP I think your interpretation of the impact on the Z800 is incorrect…

HP’s low-margin PC business has been the subject of separation rumors for months and HP shares have slumped this year amid investor concerns that the company is being overtaken by younger, nimbler Asian rivals.

Leo Apotheker, a former top executive of German business software giant SAP who took over as HP’s chief executive in November, said the moves were part of a “transformation to position HP for a new future.”

“The transformation starts today,” Apotheker told financial analysts.

Explaining the decision to sell or spin off the PC business within the next 12 to 18 months, the HP CEO said the weak economy was having an impact on PC sales but there is also a “clear secular movement in the consumer PC space.”

“Consumers are changing their use of the PC,” Apotheker said. “The tablet effect is real and sales of the TouchPad are not meeting our expectations.”

“For our PC business to remain the world’s largest personal computing business it needs the flexibility and agility to make decisions best for its future direction,” he said.

The PC market has been flat amid an explosion of powerful smartphones and the arrival of hot-selling tablets such as the iPad.

I dont know about you, but I am leery about spending lots of money with a company in this bad fiscal shape and expressing this attitude toward their PC market (be it consumer or professional). Reminds me a bit to much of Crapple.

I know Boxx has a good reputation. But my first experience with their customer service was severely lacking. I was unable to speak to a technically savvy person and was told to make an appointment for tomorrow.

Talking to ADK was an enlightening and extremely pleasant experience. And they know their stuff when it comes to Adobe CS5 (premiere and After Effects especially). I really like that they have a strong presence on the Adobe forum and are very accessible. And they price themselves to be competitive with HP.

We each make our own choices and these are the factors that are shaping mine.

Point taken. Until its released it does you no good. But as a tester I can assure you when it IS released it will be worth the wait. I hate the lack of good transitions from other vendors for Premiere. But that will change in the future 😀

Heres how I get DL to work.

1. Right click on clip and Make AE Composition
2. Continue editing and making needed clips AE Comps.
3. Make sure to save when in AE before returning to PrP

4. When you reopen the project at a later point in time do the following.The trick that I find helps me a lot is this. When I return to a project that already has some dynamic links I just select one of those linked clips in Premiere and select “Edit Original”. That opens the preexisting AE project. Then when I am ready to send a regular clip over, the AE project is already open and a new comp is created.

If I just select the regular clip and select “Make an AE Project”( without doing the step to reopen the already existing AE project with comps already created) it will create a new project with a similar name to the Original AE project and that where things get screwed up.

I can only reassert what I already stated. Boris Red 5.0 MAC has a transition effect in Premieres transition folder. You drop that on the area between 2 clips on the timeline. . Click on it to open the Premiere effects window. Then open the application to reveal Boris 5.0. For more details, read the manual, it usually helps clarify any points of confusion. If you are on a MAC it will be released soon.

You MUST render the dynamically linked clip in Premiere. The alternative is to export a movie from AE and then import that into Premiere.
