Have you had success with Twixtor and h.264 before. I would guess the long GOP structure of H.264 compression would reek havoc with Twixtor as opposed to full frame video like P2 or Prores or DNxHD. Maybe converting the clip to one of those might avoid the issue. Just a ballpark guess.

Pierre, I understand your annoyance and frustration. Keeping current with editing technology deamnds new software, then new hardware and its never ending. Comparing FCP and PrP is Apples and Oranges. Remember transcoding 6 hours of footage for a client? Now think of just dropping clips right out of the folder to the timeline. I primarily work with clients that shoot P2 and Prores so my experience is different. H.264 is a beast due to its long GOP format. The sooner it goes away the happier we all will be 😀

Sorry to disagree Pierre, but just because your system is experiencing issues, I wouldnt assume that its a problem for everyone. I will say it again. I can play h.264 clips from my 5D just fine.

As to effects,if you have the Nvidia 4000 and use the accelerated effects things are faster. I cut a 4:30 minute dramatic piece on P2 that needed color correction on every clip. Using the PrP 3 way, I was able to see it play in real time AND export was only 3 minutes. When I used Colorista2 I had to render everything and export took 10 minutes. You have to know how the software works and take advantage of its strengths.

Of course transcoding is always an option if your system has issues.

David, I have…

1.Areca Controller card with my Maxx Digital Raid 5 array.It is designed and configured to maximize disk access (about 750 MBPS for 1080 HD clips) That could be a difference, since his are 4 internal drives.

2.DIMM Riser A/DIMM 1:

Size: 4 GB
Type: DDR2 FB-DIMM
Speed: 800 MHz

And of course it runs better on Avid AMA since it is rewrapping the clips for temporary editing use to speed things up. But then most Avid editors I know will consolidate the sequence, then spend the time to transcode the clips to DNx, which is a WHOLE different way of doing things. Though some GOP intensive clips may necessitate doing it this way even in Premiere Pro.

It sounds like Black Magic is the real source of your problems, not Adobe. They make the drivers.

Hey Rafael, Id love to try that animation file on my system. I run Kona 3 and have been tweeking the system for the utmost performance. I currently have no real issues with either Adobe or Kona sequences. Let me give it a spin and see how it does!

Nope, when you choose export in PrP 5.5, the interface for Adobe Media Encoder opens. You can then choose to put it in a cue using only AME OR chose to tie up PrP when exporting, which I believe gives you the added benefits of CUDA processing if you have the appropriate graphics card.
