Alex, we spoke on the phone several weeks ago. As a system integrator I understand your vested interest in folks buying from you. And you bring up interesting points regarding HP. But for my money, it is well worth the expenditure to have the repair support done at my place of business. No one in my detailed research comes close to matching that. And the serviceability I can do is reminiscent of the Mac Pro design which I really liked. Combine all that with a great price after discounts and I am a happy camper.

I didn’t research the single chip Sandy Bridge systems at all, but they may be a good choice depending on your work flow.

I will be using the provided Nvidia card until the new Kepler comes out next year.

Thanks for the info Roland . I didnt know that. I probably will stick with Proanimator since it has more to off and renders much more quickly since its not ray tracing.

What you buy is probably a reflection of the kind of work you do. For me, I would get Proanimator first since text and logos are important. Then Element. I dont think I would buy Mettle.

The big difference is that HP can be optimized to effectively work with Adobe CS6 through HPs Performance Management software. They have worked in conjunction with Adobe to create the ability to easily alter the bios to work efficiently with CS6. Its also been certified to run CS6 (drivers, etc,) by actually testing the software on the computer.

With Alienware you get a computer.

Its OK to edit with it. You just cant save the project in a judicious manner by only saving the clips in the timeline. Everything gets saved. Glad to help!

Discretion being the better part of valor, let it suffice to say that it did not work out.

Thank goodness my enthusiasm for research revealed other options.In addition, a power supply on my Mac Pro dying in the middle of an edit session, and the pandemonium that ensued made it clear I need to make sure I had good and rapid repair support with whatever I bought.

Your web comments about working with a good VAR started me in a new direction. And all indications pointed to HPs extremely thorough support.

I ended up getting hooked up to Safe Harbor Computers for the Caldigit HD Pro 2 raid (after interviewing several others in LA) and getting a great deal direct from HP for their flagship model which vendors could not sell me. I got 27% off the computer, a price reduction on the warranty and free next day shipping.

I may be focused on what seems to be a wise choice at the moment, but Im always open to options when they seem a better way to proceed.

I get it on Tuesday and have been proactively preparing for the transition.

Yes, in my experience it is related to the codec. I had this happen with a show cut with h.264 (Long GOP compression). The clips cant be shortened due to the way they are being compressed.
