It looks like your preferences are right.

To tell you the truth I recently had issues and uninstalled the drivers myself. It does run without issues with no AJA drivers installed, just no external monitoring.

Make sue your external storage is a raid array capable of read and write speed that support your work flow.

The GTX 570 is a card that has tested superior to more expensive ones in performance

Faster processors will allow you to handle some of the more challenging codecs that are used on the kind of projects you have mentions. The faster , the better.

If you dont plan on doing Red or Epic projects you might consider a Sandy Bridge system (1 chip) which at high speeds is as good or better for most tasks as the Sandy Bridge EP (dual Xeon) systems, at HALF the price.

You shoyld have 2 drivers installed. The Kona 3 drivers AND the Adobe drivers.

You would benefit in a situation where you have 2 images on screen by owning a Quadro 4000 which handles the scaling of video. The system seems very low on ram. I see no mention of a raid array which is really need to deliver the images to the Mercury Playback system in a timely manner.

Keith, its not all or nothing for me. I will keep my Mac Pro and use it for internet use, making music (Im a rock/blues guitarist) and a variety of other functions. Its still runs great.
I will use the PC exclusively for editorial stuff. I do need the raw performance of a PC in order to comfortably deal with the wide range of codecs out there. It will be on the internet only for updating and installing.
It seems like a logical way to proceed to me 😀
